In August 2012, Sydney theatre collective Applespiel will take their show Executive Stress / Corporate Retreat to the other side of the world for the Edinburgh Fringe. This is Applespiel’s first international adventure, and we need your support to help us with flights, venue hire, and all the costs of running a show for a month.
We’ve done a lot of saving to pay for the majority of our costs, but we need your support to get this show on the road (or on a plane!)
ABOUT THE SHOW
Delve into a jungle of competition. Undergo stress management workshops, guided meditation and team building, framed in a hazy wilderness punctuated by strange events. Discover the potential for the familiar and powerful to be alien and arbitrary. Sydney’s performance collective Applespiel will help you fire the first shot.
This work was first developed at PACT centre for emerging artists through the SPACE program, for presentation at the 2011 Tiny Stadiums festival, with the ongoing support of PACT centre for emerging artists and Quarterbred.
WHO EVEN ARE APPLESPIEL?
Applespiel are a collective of young and emerging artists who collaborate as performers, musicians, technicians and devisers. Since 2009 Applespiel have been making short works, radio plays, live performances and are now bringing their first full-length work to the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Applespiel evolved out of a shared interest in contemporary performance and a collaborative creative process. Many of their projects are focused on the relationship between the personal and the collective, or the individual within the community.
In developing new work, Applespiel find themselves increasingly involved in testing dynamic audience relationships, engaging in personal stories, and dissecting structures of mythology in society. Applespiel have developed and performed work at Tiny Stadiums Festival, Underbelly Arts, Performance Space, You Are Here Festival, the Sydney and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, the Festival of Unpopular Culture, Next Wave, and the Festival of Dangerous Ideas (Sydney Opera House).
Applespiel are Simon Binns, Jarrod Duffy, Nathan Harrison, Nicole Kennedy, Emma McManus, Joseph Parro, Troy Reid, Rachel Roberts and Mark Rogers.
WHAT THE MONEY WILL BE USED FOR
The money from this Pozible campaign will be used to help us get to Edinburgh and perform a full season at the Fringe, paying for things that no amount of passion and energy can cover. We’ll use it to assist our seven-strong ensemble to fly over, to hire the venue for the season, for props to put on the stage and flyers to put in people’s hands so they know that we have a show on. It will be helping to ease the costs of Applespiel’s first international adventure, which is being shouldered by all of the team.
