A L P H A does EDINBURGH FRINGE
ALPHA is a sexy queer theatre experience incorporating original spoken word poetry, phyiscal theatre, dance and sex - telling tales from inside the Australian queer closet. Think puck meets titania in a gay bar whilst oberon is drunk dancing on the pole to the dulcent sounds of Oprah Winfrey. Only this isn't 1647, this isn't shakespeare...this isn''t midday televesion... this is TODAY, this is NOW and this is US.
Here's the sexy ALPHA update:
In 2015 ALPHA premiered at La mama, Melbourne to rave reviews
"ALPHA caresses the ears, awakens the eyes, and expands the mind. It is a truly exquisite fringe festival gem, written and performed by two masters of the English language and the human body. Sebastian Robinson and Tamara Natt have created a poignant and artistic expository of love, sexuality, societal and personal expectations and death, never before have I seen language used so effectively on stage." - theatrepeople.com.au/17418/

In 2016 ALPHA landed a second season for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras Festival to more raving reviews "(Tamara & Sebastian ) are charismatic and spirited, with a tenacious grit that keeps us seduced." - suzygoessee.com
And here we are... in 2017... where we lay our scene today... ALPHA is fortunate to have secured a third season in the reknowned EDINBURGH FINGE FESTIVAL! *bum wiggles*
We are going international baby!
Yes, that's right... we are donning our tartans and throwing a tarty arty party.
Before we whip out the bagpipes, here's a lil yarn about lil APLHA... The original extravaganza was created and written by Sebastian Jamal and Tamara Natt to clear their iphones of heartbreak poetry and exercise their desire to colour our world with queer ripples of love.
The new, revived APLHA 3.0 will boast an additional two new creatives... singer songwriter & prophet Eliza Fawcett and international sign language superstar Andy Dexterity... the multifaceted queerness is going to blow the roof off!
So... apparently it costs money to get to Scotland... and hire performance spaces.. who knew!? and our day jobs just aren't going to cut it alone...
We need to do this together!
Our stories need to be told, shared and experienced... why not globally??
Edinburgh is THE biggest fringe festival on the planet! A gateway to opportunity-land for emerging artists and new projects. This is vital to our sustainable creative practices and development. In short - we don't want to be eating tuna on crackers til we die.
Throw us some loose change, make some change... and your generosity will be rewarded!! Do you KNOW how much combined love is amongst us for you to bathe in??
You will also be invited to a special showing of the sparkly new production in Sydney town before we leave these shores. A short Q&A session... over a mimosa... and the chance to dance-in this revolution together.
How The Funds Will Be Used
Let's get down to business!
Here is a budget we have drawn up,
It's a pretty special budget as it shows the hyperthetical amout that it would cost us to stage ALPHA if we were running as a professional theatre production. (Pay artists and additional costs to industry standards) and it also shows us the limited budget we are adhering to. (ACTUAL BUDGET)
The column on the far right titled ACTUAL shows the ACTUAL costs of the show as we intend to mount it.
The hypothetical amounts are listed to the right in the NOTES column.
The funds raised from this Pozible campaign will subsidize a portion of the total expenses listed in the ACTUAL costs column.
The Venue hire is 3000 GBP or $5500AUD
For a 1 month season, and a 1 hour slot per night at C Venues.
Return Flights for 4 performers is $8,800AUD
We have yet to secure accomodation for the duration
We will also be throwing a fabulous fund raiser in the weeks leading up to our departure. It will be a chance for you to experience some of the work, watch some performances from other incredible Aussie artists who will be also adventuring to the Fringe Festival.... have a boogie and support the cause :)
The Challenges
The largest challenge is once we hit the ground in Edinburgh.
From all accounts, anyone who has done a show in Edinburgh will mention the absolute fight it is to get bums on seats, it is a MARATHON to say the least,
Not to mention a month long season with only one day off in the middle.
In 2016 there were 50,266 performances of 3,269 shows in 294 venues.
You are literally competing against over 3000 other shows and the only way to get those bums on seats is to
FLYER for you LIFE! From sunrise to showtime.
Other challenges will inlcude securing affordable accomodation,
And of course Reworking the show in Australia before we leave.
