Did you know that over 8 million tonnes of plastic leak into the sea each year? Which is like

dumping a garbage truck load into the ocean every minute!

An estimated 150 million tonnes of plastic are present in the global marine environment and unless we change our behaviour, by 2050

plastic in our oceans will outweigh fish!

  • Image of a Laysan Albatross that died from a ruptured stomach and starvation, by David Liittschwager and Susan Middleton. 340 grams of indigestible items were found in its gut and most of this was plastic.

There's no time to lose! Using music and film we aim to spread the message that ‘Every Bit Of Litter Really Matters’.

Who are we?

The Port Phillip EcoCentre is a not-for-profit, community-managed, environment organisation. We work with schools, community groups and councils on a range of litter education, prevention and clean-up projects to stop litter from entering storm water drains and impacting the Port Phillip Bay catchment. We have teamed up with MOOP Patrol (MOOP stands for Matter Out Of Place) and MC Guttermouth to create a song with the confronting title, ‘A Little Bit Of Litter Doesn’t Matter’.

What's our story?

Up and coming Aussie hip-hop artist MC Guttermouth has written a catchy rhyme, convincing others that a little bit of litter doesn't matter. Does it matter? MOOP Patrol thinks so. MOOP Officers Tait and Jones also use rhythm and rhyme to tell a story and send a clear message to MC Guttermouth, who ultimately gets it. He joins the crew on a path that leads to higher consciousness, self-responsibility and environmental stewardship.

We think our song has the power to transform others too.

How can you help?

Right now our song is a demo, a diamond in the rough that needs polishing. The addition of a music video will reinforce the message and give the song wings to reach the largest possible audience. Help us capture our performance so everyone can access it, share it, and spread the message to help save our waterways and oceans.

Please pledge your support for our cause, which is everyone's cause - a little bit of litter really matters!

We have some great rewards for your generous support, including a locally designed bandana to show you are part of our team.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The funds you pledge will be used to complete our song. It needs to be 'mixed' and 'mastered'. Although our song sounds good right now, after mixing and mastering it will sound waaaay better. Ready for radio. Or even TV! And definitely the interweb.

Your pledge will also help us create a music video. Our song has a strong story which will have so much more impact if it is told both with audio and visuals. Help get our story into the hearts and minds of all Australians, and the world!

A great quote from a recent blog about the relevance of music videos today: "...music videos, like all of pop culture, are relevant in the sense that they are vessels for ideas that originate from the underground and bubble to the surface, changing minds and opinions as they go."

A professional music video can cost between 10 and 20 grand. That kind of funding would give us access to talented professionals who can really give our project wings. We have set a modest target of $8000, which will provide the bare minimum to make a quality video, with a breakdown of costs as follows:

Audio mixing and mastering
$500
Producing
$1,500
Directing$1,500
Filming
$2,500
Editing
$1,000
Pozible fees and rewards
$1,000
Total
$8,000

Any additional funding we receive over and above our target will allow us to get more help from the pros and push our song out onto the airwaves and through the interweb.

Who are we again?

The Port Phillip EcoCentre is a vibrant, accessible network that facilitates communities in establishing social and environmental well-being. The EcoCentre's 'Turn Off the Tap' project (funded by the state governments' 'Litter Hotspots Program') aims to raise awareness and educate the public about the effects of litter. The EcoCentre’s Neil Blake (Port Phillip Baykeeper) has been educating and motivating the public to act on behalf of the water and its’ inhabitants for the past 30 years. He features in the internationally award-winning film ‘Baykeepers’ (www.facebook.com/baykeepers) while sharing the message that ‘A Little Bit of Litter Really Matters’.

MOOP PATROL | www.mooppatrol.com

What is MOOP? MOOP is matter, it's matter of out place, a matter that matters for the entire human race.

MOOP Officers Tait and Jones positively engage with the community using theatrics and fun to remind us about environmental matters.

The Challenges

Our biggest challenge is, and will always be, convincing everybody that every bit of litter really matters!

Acknowledgements

Audio demo recording and Pozible campaign planning was partly funded through the Victorian Government's Litter Hotspots Program. Special thanks to Daniel Zisin for recording and mixing the demo, Rachel Gedye for capturing the perfect story photo, Georgie Wilton for designing our striking reward bandana, Polperro Dolphin swims for their generous support, the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron for allowing us to film in a space with a spectacular view of Port Phillip Bay, and Trade Creative Media for shooting our campaign video. Finally, this project would not be possible without the voluntary contributions made by our performers and creative team.
