HOW TO SUPPORT  MY CAMPAIGN

Photography Exhibition Fundraiser & Photobook Launch

For the past 5 years I have been documenting the car culture around Fremantle and Cottesloe, Western Australia, in a project called  'A Portrait of Cars'.

In November 2019, with the help from you,  I plan to exhibit a selection of these photographs in a photography exhibition.

The exhibtion will be run in conjunction with the launch my photography book, 'Crusin' down the coast - Cottesloe to Fremantle' to be published by Fremantle Press.

To the owners, these cars are way more than just a means of transportation, they are  an extension of themselves, part of their personality, a way of life.

The cars are often given names and accompanied by interesting stories. Here are just a few to wet your appetite.

Thanks in advance for supporting my campaign. Please check the rewards that I'm offering (on the right) in return for your support.

"My name is Mike Richardson. I'm an architect and this is my Tracer MkIII. I thought of building this vehicle because I used to go to university on a normal motocycle, and as a result of getting wet and cold, I thought there must be a better way of doing this.

Until you see it on the road you cant appreciate how it corners and leans into corners. The vehicle was designed with the mantra 'car comfort...motorcycle cornering."

'My names Bob and this is my 1967 HR Holden. Shes called Nancy, after the women that left it to me in her will. She was my next-door neighbour and I looked after as much as I could in the early days. I always wanted to buy it and she kept telling me 'no, Im going to leave it to my nephew'. When I first found out I inherited it I wanted to chase up the keys. Nancy didn't trust anybody so she dug holes in the back yard and buried all her keys. But we managed to get it going. All I did was put a battery in that thing. pored some petrol down the carby, turned the key on and she started, running like a hairy goat but she ran.

"My name is Manual and this is my 1960 MGA. As a little boy growing up in  Casablanca, Morocco, there was always this beautiful MG parked accross the road. It was a dream from that moment that one day I would own one."

I bought it from an old Italian man from the Italian suburb of Dianella. She had been sitting out the back of his house with a cover and suspended on bricks. The car was immaculate and the odometer read 68,000km (not a typo) - my dad is a mechanic and couldn't disprove our skepticism.  I love the build of it, its boxy shape and most of all the lipstick red color. Its flashy without being a show pony.

"My name is Paul, I am an Astronomer from Fremantle Western Australia and this is my 1963 Ford Thunderbird, The T-bird appealed to me because of its sleek styling and cockpit based on the era when space exploration was in the news everyday.

It's a car from the Mad Men era and in the words of that show; "Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear.

It's a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you're doing is OK. You are OK". Times have definitely changed since then but at least we can capture some memories of that simpler world.'

"My name is Victor. I am an Artist, Mariner and Musian from Fremantle Western Australia, and this my baby Veronica ...... yes she has a name. I drove her around Australia in 2010 and shes been a good girl.  I love the idea that we are one of the most isolated cities in the world."

"My name is George,  I'm here from the UK on a working holiday.I bought the car about 3 months ago with the intention of gearing it up ready for a road trip around Australia & seeing how far she could take me. I was looking for a bargain car when I found the Volvo online & at $800 I couldn't say no. That night was my first time in Fremantle. I was actually meeting the girl who was in the pictures for the first time. It was sort of a first date. Her name was Charolotte. It ended up being a short relatioship, as was the life of the car"
