Hi, Alana Macpherson here. 

I am hoping to fund part of the costs associated with the recording and release of my debut album. I formed the Alana Macpherson Nonet in 2014, and over the course of the past four years I have been writing/arranging music, leading, and playing in this ensemble. I went back to study my Honours in Jazz at WAAPA in 2016, with the goal of refining my composition and arranging skills. Some of the music that will be on the upcoming album is a result of that study, and some of the music is a result of what I learned in the process, and have written since. 

This ensemble is comprised of some of Perth's finest musicians. These players have dedicated their time to rehearsing, performing and developing this music with me, and it is an absolute honour to work with them. The nonet has evolved over the past four years and we have developed what I think is our own unique ensemble sound. I am so proud of the shape this music has taken... I never could have imagined it would develop into what it is today, and I absolutely cannot wait to record it and share it with you! 

The album will feature: Priscilla Gardner (vocals), Ricki Malet (trumpet), Dylan Hooper (tenor saxophone), Blake Philips (trombone), Jessica Beahan (bass clarinet), Jacob Mitchell (guitar), Austin Salisbury (piano), Kate Pass (bass), Alex Reid (drums) and myself on alto saxophone. The album is going to be recorded on April 26th, 27th at Crank Studios in Perth, and is expected to be ready for release by late July 2018. 

The total cost of the recording, mixing, mastering and pressing of the album is going to be upwards of $7000. This doesn't include the costs associated with the promotion and marketing of the album. If you are financially able please consider pre-ordering an album, or donating to this project.

One of the potential challenges we may face is needing extra studio time. As the music is fairly complex, the 2 days of allotted studio time we have will be spent recording the tunes as a whole. If the takes we decide on don't have the best solos from the musicians and they wish to record more takes of their solos, I would like to allow an extra half day of studio time for that process.
