My Mission 

My name is Liana and I own a small social enterprise called Sunflower and Ivy.  My mission is to open an art studio for busy hands and big hearts in Perth Western Australia, a place for children and adults to create, connect and nurture their creativity. Since late 2017 I have been offering workshops, classes and events around Perth and I would love your help to stock Sunflower and Ivy full of art materials when I open the first ever studio space in 2020.  

You know tha feeling you get when you've been in good company, achieved somethig new or you got entirely lost in the moment? The one that's like crisp fresh air in your lungs, warm hugs or hour long laughter? The feeling that leaves you satisfied, enlivened and able to take on the world? The kind of feeling you carry around in your heart for days or weeks? Well that is the feeling that Sunflower and Ivy aims for. This little enterprise is all things of an art studio; creative, enchanting and quirky and we also serve up a special dose of connection and emotional salve. The Classes

I hold both a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Master of Art Therapy and am passionate about creating art classes with an emotional twist. Sunflower and Ivy specializes in art workshops and groups but our events are small and intimate. Good things come in small packages after all! We welcome children and adults to smudge, carve, craft, collect, re-purpose, potion, squish, press, tinker, colour, scribble, splash and giggle some magic.

Process Art

Ready for an adventure? This kind of art is ALL about the process. Process art encourages play, experimentation and adventure. It is an opportunity to relish a sensory experience and is a raw and organic kind of therapy. In our new studio we will be offering process art classes for young children and drop in evening sessions for adults. 

Emotional Resilience Workshops

Where art and and therapy collide, emotional resilience art workshops carve a territory of their own. Each workshop centralizes an emotional topic to explore. From Fear, anxiety and joy to hope, sadness, fairies, superheroes, monsters and mythical creatures our programs have something for everyone to explore and learn.

Skill Learning

We can't help but pay homage to the instructional art class. For those looking to dive a little deeper in skills and art education, these classes are an opportunity to learn a few tricks of the trade in areas of sculpture, painting, printmaking and drawing.

Private Groups and Parties

From the serious to the playful, Sunflower and Ivy facilitates private therapeutic groups and unique art parties. Perfect for friends, kindred spirits or support groups. We offer parties for birthdays, hens and team celebrations with plenty of themes to choose from or you can design your own. 

Community

With a strong belief that collective community and small acts of kindness can be life changing. The studio aims to be a place to create and connect. We will be hosting various events  for support groups, craft-for-change projects as well as regular drop in crafter-noons for anyone seeking some supportive company.

The Vision

The sunflower and Ivy studio will be fitted with long tables, strong and reassuring, the heart of the making and reminiscent of the wholesome dining room table. Large shelves will be full of jars, boxes and trays stocked full of ink, paint, pens, crayons, glue, wool and ribbon, collage pictures, coloured card, beads and so much more. A large sink and a tidy reception desk will fill out the remainder of the space. Looking up you will notice twinkling fairy lights and colourful bunting. The sounds of paper cutting, pen scribbling, hushed giggles, silent contemplation and eager chatting will fill the space on any given day. From the fresh and young faced to the older and wise; the people visiting the studio will be the novice, the nervous, the experienced and the curious. There will be aching hearts and joyful smiles and the studio will welcome them all. Offering, for a few hours, a sanctuary from the city bustle and an opportunity to create, connect and nurture.

The financials of Sunflower and Ivy can be broken into 6 sections: service support, registrations, web and SEO, fit out, art materials and rent. As an already operating business, the key areas of financial need for a new studio space are fit out, art materials and rent. Money raised from Pozible will fund art materials and if the stretch goal is achieved these funds will assist fit out.

Our art materials are purchased from MTA and Zart as well as various speciality suppliers. Buying materials in bulk will equip the studio to run smoothly and confidently. Sunflower and Ivy believes art making should be an abundant experience so we don't scrimp on art materials. Our shopping list includes reams of paper, colourful crayons, inks, paints, craft construction materials as well as additional scizzors, rulers and pencils to add to the  current stock. I will also purchase some aprons, cloths, buckets, paint pots, brushes and modelling tools. Where possible I endeavour to puchase environmentally freindly materials including recycled papers, earth paints, washi tape, re-homed wool and thread and recycled ink fineliners.

Fit Out 3,000

From shelves, to tables and chairs and a large sink; the fit out for an art studio may be modest for a commercial space but there are a number of things that are essential to make the space comfortable and functional, you might even find a couch or two popped in to make waiting for your class nice and chill. Varnished wood shelves will be made from salvaged wood and solid and scrubbed clean tables will come from the local community via gumtree; keeping our budget healthy and achievable. And I mustn't forget the signs! So you can find us. Any funds raised above our primary goal will contribute to studio fit-out.
