Broad Magazine shares the stories and celebrates the style of women aged 50-plus. Age informs but does not define our pages with content spanning culture, career, lifestyle, fashion, travel, food, and family. We put mature women centre stage, concentrating on the successes and the challenges via quality journalism and a design lens that embraces the beauty of being older.
Broad is an independent magazine, published in Melbourne by a small, private publisher made up of a group of like minded women of mixed ages, with backgrounds in journalism, art and design, and events. Our goal is to challenge patronising, outdated stereotypes of ageing. We are here to provide a voice for women who are comfortable saying – I’m ageing and I’m okay with that.
Even in its infancy, Broad Magazine has featured the likes of style icon Linda Rodin, rock goddess Deborah Conway, fashion designer and Australian icon Linda Jackson, Senior Style Bible's Dorrie Jacobson, soprano Deborah Cheetham and television actress Linda Cropper. We have a firm stance on using the term anti-ageing, as Michelle Lee of Allure recently stated, 'reinforcing the message that aging is a condition we need to battle — think antianxiety meds, antivirus software, or antifungal spray.'

How The Funds Will Be Used
Launching late last year as a digital issue, we now want to proceed with a high quality, collectable, printed publication that is of enduring relevance and value to our readers. This pre-sale campaign will allow us to produce a limited edition run of 1,000 printed magazines, with funds being used to cover print costs and postage, and any additional funding to be put towards the printing of issue two and beyond.
Help us get Broad Magazine out there and on shelves before one of the big overseas-owned publishers beats us there first!

The Challenges
Print is a wonderful medium, and magazines offer a ritual and tactility that simply cannot be replicated on screen. While Broad has done well as a digital magazine to date, we have a growing audience keen to see our content in print. Though print and distribution costs can be crippling for a new, and independent publisher.
By proceeding with a pre-sales model, we can not only fund the print and postage of our first print issue, but we can continue to limit the amount and nature of advertising in this and future issues, to be only that which we deem relevant and beneficial to our readers. Our intention is that Broad Magazine will continue to be a quarterly, seasonal publication, with this premier print issue to be released in early December 2017.

Broad is the premier publication dedicated to the life, style and beauty needs of mature Australian women.
We seek to change dated and inaccurate perceptions of ageing, and inspire women to embrace their unique style by consistently delivering a quality, language neutral periodical where age is no barrier.
Women aged 50-plus are tired of the way brands communicate with them, feeling either patronised or completely ignored. There’s been a cultural shift in how we view ageing yet this narrative is not being reflected in the mainstream, or by retailers.
