Carnal Privilege is being produced by a passionate group of filmmakers from the Western Australian Screen Academy (WASA) in collaboration with a cast of talented final year actors from the highly acclaimed Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

It follows a staunchly vegan punk band on their way to their first big break - a supporting gig at an animal rights festival - when they are set off course and hit a kangaroo.

Principles and friendships are put to the test when each member has starkly contrasting views on how to proceed in this black comedy of errors, as masks fall and egos unravel to a mediocre punk rock soundtrack. Rock on.

ABOUT THE CREW

Director

Quentin Curzon is a young filmmaker currently studying at WASA. He left his hometown in Switzerland fresh out of high school to travel the world for two years, documenting his journey through photography. He then settled in Sydney and completed an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media at the International Film School of Sydney. His last film, “Trigger”, won the audience’s choice award at the Gala screening at the Ritz Cinema. Carnal Privilege is his 8th film project as a director, and was inspired by real events that took place on his journey from Sydney to Perth earlier this year.

Producer

Hannah Ngo is currently studying her masters in cinematography and producing at the WA Screen Academy. While studying her Bachelors in Accounting at the University of Western Australia, she peppered her degree with media units and eventually switched majors to pursue her passions. Through making creative decisions, she plans to bring innovative projects into being that will flow through the hearts and minds of many.

Writer

Alex "AB" Morrison is a writer-director-rapper who graduated from The International Film School Sydney (Now AFTT) in June 2015, majoring in Directing, Screenwriting and Producing, and has since been honing his craft through short courses at NIDA and AFTRS as well as writing and directing the award-winning music video 'Token You' for emerging artist Ingrid Mae. He most recently wrote, produced and directed the upcoming web series ‘Phake It’, loosely based on his own aborted plan to fake his own death. AB is currently alive, kicking and crushing it as a screenwriter and producer at the WA Screen Academy.

Cinematographer

Balázs Kajcsa, 21 years of age, is an aspiring cinematographer drawing influences from his diverse background  growing up in Europe and Australia. He had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented people for the last two years at North Metropolitan Tafe studying Digital Cinema, and there is no doubt that he would like to continue sharing his passion and experience with other individuals. Balázs strives to learn and to become better at his job each day, and he can’t wait to start working on this project. He believes that telling stories is an ongoing, collaborative process, with a result of combined ideas and experiences.

Editor

Marnie Allen graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2014, completing a major in Communications and English. She is currently completing her Masters in Editing and Screenwriting at the WA Screen Academy. She has a particular interest in comedy, having co-written and performed in a comedy play at Fringeworld and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as performing stand up. Carnal Privilege is her first venture into film as an editor.

How The Funds Will Be Used

As no animals or vegans will be harmed in this production, we need extra funds to help build this kangaroo.

Our production designer has a very strong vision for this film and is proposing  a very distinctive costume and set design. The funds raised in this campaign will help bring his vision and design into reality.

This film takes place in an isolated Western Australian location.  We’re setting up a unit camp in rural Morangup for 4 days, and to ensure our crew can do their jobs, we need assistance with generators, marquees, portable unit equipment and a whole lot of sunscreen.

Our cinematographer also has a wish list that includes extra equipment to safely film the car scene and gear that is not readily available at the university. The funds will go towards items such as a car mount for the bonnet and window and a follow focus.

$200 - Costumes - for main characters and extras
$500 - Props - Car, Kangaroo

$300 - Camera equipment - follow focus, car mount kit, teradek
$1000 - Unit - Generators, portaloos, marquees and food for 4 days for 45 people.

The Challenges

LOCATION

Weather is always a challenge when shooting outside. We are working with an experienced 1st AD to develop contingency plans for unpredictable weather.

Finding the right props and costume will be a challenge, but we have access to talented set and costume designers and crafts people from WAAPA and the wider industry. Your support will enable us to achieve our vision for this film.
