Eco Art and The Arctic Circle
Hi my name is Dominique,
If we haven’t meet as of yet, here is what is happening in Main Arm, the hinterland of Mullumbimby NSW, where I live and why I’m asking for your support today.
My global footprint is very small. I haven’t traveled since 1994 and my mud brick home is powered by the sun. Okay, occasionally during the rainy season, I kickstart the generator. At the beginning of the year, I was accepted as a creative writer and educator to participate in an expeditionary residency. This residency commences September 29, 2019 and takes place 10 degrees latitude of the North Pole. The residency is a world wide partnership organised by Farm Inc thearcticcircle.org and has been especially designed for creative producers with an ecological focus. The purpose to inspire and develop a multidisciplinary conversation through field work between Scientists and Artists.
Onboard a rigged Barquentine, I will be sailing the Arctic Circle for fourteen days, alongside twenty-nine like minded people from all over the world. Some will be Artists, some Scientists, Activists and Educators. All aboard will be sailing with a purpose. That is; to acknowledge the creativity inherent in this living system: to experience its beauty, to bear witness to its crisis as the glaciers continue to melt, and give this experience creative form.
Over the past twenty-five years, beginning with my degree at Southern Cross University in Lismore, my passion for Eco/Cultural Studies has been developed and my writers lens formed. The treatment for a film Running Dry and a screenplay in development, Burning Rivers both deal with ecological and social justice which are intrinsically connected.
As an educator, albeit not in the traditional sense, I have a special interest in dyslexia and students with differing learning abilities and have worked with disengaged youth in ACE community Colleges Balunda a second chance program. I plan to share this experience of being on board the Barquentine in 2020, via three interconnecting workshops. These workshops will be held over six weeks and the creative expression will focus on Art, Science and Activism in a globally changing environment.
The importance of this expeditionary residency is unquantifiable. As researchers needs research contexts, writers need experience and collaboration. At this point I have paid my deposit and the cold weather gear needed has been generously lent, as of yesterday. I need to raise $8,500 so that I can go. This means I need your help in the form of a pledge for financial support, no matter the amount. Your generosity will be rewarded with your pledge.
Please share this with your friends and make a Pozible pledge today.
Warmest Regards
Dominique Lee Klein
Budget Overview
The money raised from this Pozible campaign will be used to fund
- return airfares for Dominique between Australia and Svalbard $2,150
- the remainder of the cost of the expedition $6,350
Dominique has already paid the deposit of $3000 for the trip and Farm Inc. covers half the cost of the expedition.
Primary Goal: $8,500
This money will be used to pay for the majority of the cost of airfares between Australia and Svalbard, and the remainder of the cost of the expedition.
Stretch Goal: $10,000
The primary goal figure is by no means the whole estimated budget for this trip, therefore Dominique will be personally contributing her own funds. Meeting this stretch goal would allow Dominique the time to work on a short script she hopes to produce whilst at the North Pole.
Thanks in advance for your support and encouragement. Please feel free to mention me, my work and this pozible campaign to your friends. With your help not only will I have the opportunity to meet like minded individuals in one of the worlds most incredible locations but I will also spend two weeks collaborating with people driven by the plight of our planet. I will return with a wealth of knowledge, inspiration and resources a plenty to create workshops for youth to engage with Activism, Arts and Science.
