What's our deal?

Basically, a year or three ago we decided there was room in the market for a show about food and booze that

wasn't presented in a glorified, sanitised reality tv format. Something that reflected the irreverent, self destructive and

largely delusional flavour of restaurant life. From there we wrote the scripts, shot a quick

scene in NYC (see below) shot another little teaser in Sydney (see below as well) and wrangled as many damn connections as we could to get the pilot off the ground. Strangley enough, it seems to have worked...almost.

What's the story?

It's really about a band of misfits and their desperate attempt to win three hats for their extremely dubious restaurant. Along the way we affectionately take the piss out of various food and beverage trends (see the 'Dirkonstructed G&T...and yes it is a joke. The fact we had to clarify that for social media was the best!), encounter a cast of deranged characters from feared reviewer Tony McQuack to incompetent kitchenhand Rashid (who gets fired each episode but keeps reappearing in different guises). Finally, it seems the crew may just achieve their dreams but the the short cuts and chicanery may mean that the cost is too high.

The Central Cast and Characters...

  •  Claire - played by Caeley Wesson.  She's on a mission to return daddy's crumbling restaurant empire to its former glory and restore her good quadruple-barrelled name.

  • Dave 'three hats' Haken - played by Dirk Bromley. Old 'three hats' has been in the game too long, funny for a guy that literally can't take the heat in the kitchen. He's responsible for seeing the restaurant lurch from empty trend to empty trend.

  • Hunter - played by Nicholas Linehan. Hunter is the restaurant manager but is more interested in his unpublished novel that he's written in Ancient Gaelic. He actively works against the interests of the team and while he somehow engineers their success he may also facilitate their demise.

  • Dirk - played by Alex Harris. Dirk is an aloof and disinterested sommelier. He watches on as the action unfolds before him and offers unsolicited pithy remarks to no one in particular. He also harbours a dangerous obsession with Tony McQuack - the feared reviewer.

How The Funds Will Be Used

You're help is important to us and we want you to know where your hard earned clams are going!

Here's the rough breakdown:

  • $2000 - talent and crew costs. Most people on this job are working for free but there are some costs even our significant charm can't manage to mooch.
  • $500 - location and catering. The show requires a working restaurant as a set and also a pretty significant cast and crew, who need to eat.
  • $750 - plegde production. The finest beer coozies and t-shirts cost the finest of dollars. It'll be worth it.
  • The rest - post production, marketing and hopefully enough for a small premiere

The Challenges

Shooting this teaser  on the streets of New York City was a challenge and that was with one actor. This is a 2-day shoot with four key cast members, a gaggle of extras and 2 different locations. We will make it though!
