ABOUT GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS: 

GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS is an intersectional feminist multidisciplinary online journal and artspace created for women, with women, by women. Bringing together a variety of feminist artists, writers and practitioners, Girls Will Be Girls offers a space for any individual of any age or background who identifies as female or non-binary to take up the space that they deserve. It is a place for them to be their unapologetic selves and where their unapologetic selves are championed and applauded.

GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS  has been a passion project from the very beginning. Since our inception in 2015 to our launch in 2016; through our first year of weekly updates, daily articles and sharing art from the wider sphere of creative feminists, we have put our blood, sweat and tears into this project.

We would be nothing without the help and support of our contributors and the community of supporters we have cultivated over the past year.

GOING FOR GOLD

GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS remains a direct challenge to the patriarchy, and we are invested in finding new ways to discuss, visualise and understand intersectional feminism, womanhood and other intersecting identities. In a world that tells women to sit down and keep quiet, we offer a space that is unashamedly open about women or gender non-conforming individuals, and the issues that affect and interest them.

In the past year, we have been completely self-funded and run with the passion and kindness of our volunteer contributors. They make GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS not only a possibility, but also a true joy and honour to continue.

With your help, we would love to keep smashing boundaries and presenting incredible works from women and femme-identifying people in our community.

By pledging today, you will be helping us raise the money needed to not only compensate our contributors, the life-blood of GWBG, for a full year but also to be bigger and bolder with our endeavours in 2017 and beyond.

We’re talking merchandise and printed zines, social events, panels, gigs and more!

Your pledge will also help fund the printing, postage and distribution costs of our limited edition zine, prizes and apparel to be available at our April launch party - you're invited!

Simply put, your support will enable us to keep the final price of these goals low so that everything we do remains affordable and accessible to those who might benefit from it the most.

Anything we raise above our target will be used to compensate our amazing graphic designer, recoup material and process costs we have been paying out of our own pockets for the last year. 

With arts funding cuts increasing every year, DIY remains the most accessible options for start-ups like us. This is exciting and empowering, but also means going at it alone.

Our new limited edition zine and line of merchandise is print-ready, our birthday party celebration is booked – we just need your help to bring it all into the world.
