Good Luck Chelsea Short Film
With one hour to go, no ride, and no one to turn to, 14-year-old Chelsea is determined to make it to her ballet exam - no matter what. But when a moment of help turns into a violation, she’s forced to reclaim her power in a world that’s intent on taking it from her.
Synopsis
In a forgotten pocket of suburban Western Australia, Chelsea, 14, wakes before dawn, determined to get to her ballet exam.
But the adults around her - addicted, abusive, or absent - won’t lift a finger. As Chelsea tries to navigate her world alone, the very fact that she is “just a kid” becomes her greatest obstacle - no one takes her seriously, no one helps, and no one sees the strength behind her quiet determination.
When Lenny, a friend of her brother's, offers a ride, Chelsea’s need for help outweighs her instincts.
Will Chelsea find a way to claim agency in a world where children are denied autonomy and power?
A Film For Change
Good Luck Chelsea will work as a tool for education, awareness, and change.
Whether it's through discussion of these issues on the festival circuirt, or bringing Good Luck Chelsea into schools, youth programs, and community organisations, we aim to spark critical conversations about consent, resilience, and the systemic barriers that trap young people in cycles of harm.
Through facilitated discussions, educational materials, and partnerships with advocacy groups, the film will serve as a bridge between fiction and real-world impact - helping young audiences recognise warning signs, speak up, and seek support.
With your support, Good Luck Chelsea can reach the people who need it most. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to create awareness, empower survivors, and drive meaningful change.
About Us
Theresa Roberts - writer / director
Theresa is a writer and director whose short film Bathers premiered at CinefestOz and is continuing its festival circuit. The film has won First Place Editing at the Swan International Film Festival, earned two WA Screen Arts Award nominations, received a nomination for Exceptional Directing at the Young Australian Film Festival, and was selected for My Queer Career at the Mardi Gras Film Festival in Sydney. Bathers has also screened internationally at OUTSOUTH Film Festival (USA) and the Bilbao Surf Film Festival (Spain).
Her storytelling has been widely recognised - she was one of four writers chosen for the WIFT Writer’s Retreat at CinefestOz and won First Place at Revelation Film Festival’s 2024 Pitch’d Battle for her psychological thriller Bluesfest, impressing judges including producers Tania Chambers and Shane McNeil - and screenwriter Jesse Laurie.
Theresa is now embarking on her next project, Good Luck Chelsea, with a strong desire to grow as a filmmaker, push her craft further, and ultimately build towards writing and directing long-form work.
Aron Attiwell - producer
Aron Attiwell is a producer passionate about developing bold, character-driven stories that challenge stereotypes and spotlight misunderstood communities.
His latest project, In the Doghouse, is a heartfelt prison drama about a father rediscovering parenthood through an animal rehabilitation program. The film further cements his reputation for telling human-centred stories with authenticity and emotional weight. It is currently premiering at CinefestOz. His past work, including his short film Fading Numbers, earned him the Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year and has since distributed the film as educational material in Western Australian high schools.
Aron’s work often blurs the lines between documentary and fiction, drawing on real-world issues and lived experiences to craft compelling cinematic narratives.
