On the 27th of August 2022, the first completed version of the 

iMPERFECT Messiah libretto and score (imperfectmessiah.com) 

will be produced as a Staged Reading by the Seymour Performers Workshop  in Victoria, Australia (spworkshop.org.au).

• A staged reading is a rehearsed read-through of a written work, with the actors still holding their scripts, a pianist accompanying all song numbers, performed in front of a seated audience and with the bare minimum use of props, sets, costumes.
• This process allows the writer and the artistic team to gauge the effectiveness, pace and flow of the dialogues and dramatic action before major investments are committed to a full production. 
• Audience reaction and feedback  is of great import.
• A staged reading means a written work is only a few steps away from being fully produced!

At the first quarter of 2018, the work was entitled David - Shepherd. Warrior. King. the musical.  The focus was on a hero. My hero.  A mix of students and community theatre enthusiasts volunteered to give my libretto its first cold reading. Between the readers and the audience of two, rich and crucial discussions were had. Revisions. 

This is Peggy Drake, community thespian. She read the part of King Sh'wul at the public reading held in Gympie, Queensland, Australia. November 2018. 

Audience feedback and discussions with the cast led to more drastic revisions and reshaping. The musical needed a new personality. 

And then in 2022... iMPERFECT Messiah is about how, in the face of weilding so much power, even the best of us can be corrupted.

The iMPERFECT Messiah libretto (story script and song lyrics) and score (music notation for piano and voice) is a total of 270 pages, double spaced, single sided.   

There are 21 actors + the Staging Director + the Musical Director/pianist + a guitarist + a just-in-case copy (or a souvenir).      

It costs $8 each for binding the script and score into one book or folder... because 270 loose pages of A4 paper is a pain to hold on to while you are trying to read your dialogues in character!

270 pages  x  A$0.40/page x 25 copies + A$8 each for binding =  A$2900

Now, let's face it, it'll be hard to convince YOU/investors that a new musical is worth the dollars to produce on stage if you can't see and hear a sample first, right?
