Hi I work and volunteer at Walhalla Goldfields Railway. Our Fowler locomotive engine is a great little workhorse and needs urgent repair. Our mission is to raise funds so it can get back on track to work once more.

The Fowler Locomotive No.14 is one of two locomotives used by the Walhalla Goldfields Railway (WGR) on its 2’6” inch narrow gauge tourist railway that can support the operation of three carriages used to provide our visitors with a unique railway experience.

 The WGR is located in the picturesque foot hills of the Baw-Baw Ranges, along the Stringers Creek Gorge in the West Gippsland region of Victoria.

Fowler No.14 has been a workhorse since 1993 for the WGR and through age and wear and tear has suffered a number of mechanical failures which has put it out of operation.

The locomotive has a long history within the local region, commencing operation when purchased in 1954 by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria for general purpose duties in the local power industry before being donated to the WGR in 1993 prior to the impending closure of the interconnecting railway between Yallourn and Morwell Open Cut Mines.

Parts for this locomotive have become increasingly rare and often need to be manufactured. In order to provide reliable operation of our railway, we need Fowler No.14 back on the tracks.

Recently Walhalla and the surrounding area were hit by a bush fire limiting access to the railway with the road closed for some time, limiting revenue capacity.

With the down turn in visitation due to fires and the ongoing cancellation of services, our ability to have much needed work completed on Fowler Locomotive No.14 has been impacted.

As a not-for-profit volunteer tourist railway, WGR is seeking your help to complete repairs to this quaint and rare locomotive and help us get it back up and running again.

What your generous tax-deductible donations will help us to do-

The Walhalla Goldfields Railway volunteer maintenance crew are adept at being able to source parts from various businesses in the local region, and where required from interstate to ensure repairs are completed efficiently using the right components.

To complete repairs, Fowler Locomotive No.14 needs the following items installed to get it back on track:-

Cooling System $5500

Transmission Torque Converter $2000

Transmission Oil pump $1800

Transmission oil $200

Hydraulic hoses- $550

Water hoses $200

If your generous donations exceed our target of $10,000, the WGR will gratefully contribute additional funds towards further much needed work on this locomotive including:-

Installing wheel flange lubricators $400

Installing 24V Cabin ventilation system $3000

Repainting the locomotive $20,000
