Hooray for Spoon Jam!

Spoon Jam is Australia's very own little festival dedicated to the art of hand carved wooden spoons. It was born last year on the beautiful NSW far south coast and yep it's awesome!

But for the next Spoon Jam on 25 & 26 November 2017 we want to make it even more awesomerererer....!

You see, we started off last year with two Aussie spoon carving teachers, me and the superbly talented Pete Trott from Kyneton VIC, and after a beaut weekend of showing 20 people how to magic a log into a beautiful spoon using an axe and a couple of sharp knives, we thought how great it would be to come back in 2017 with a third teacher. A special guest.

And if you're going to get a special guest, why not ask a REALLY special guest!

We're bringing Jögge Sundqvist to Spoon Jam!

Now if you're a spoonerd, you're probably pretty excited right now, because Jögge Sundqvist is a true mastercraftsman and legend (some would say rockstar!) of the spoon carving world!

No worries if you're new to spoon carving, because Jögge is regarded as one of the best (I reckon the best!) spoon carvers, teachers and woodcraft artists in the world. He has an awesome philosophy of wood and hand crafts and this amazing energy that is about as infectious as spoon carving itself! His work is full of fun, playfulness and happiness which really is what Spoon Jam is all about.

So we are so stoked that Jögge has agreed to come...but here's the thing, Jögge lives in Sweden, which is a really long way from Pambula, NSW, and we need you to help us raise the money to fly him to Australia (and as much as we'd like to keep him here, we'll need to pay for his return flight too!).

We have some mega awesome rewards to give away for all you kind folk who help us on our way, including limited spots on a one day pre-Spoon Jam workshop with Jögge.

Thanks so much everyone, and if you've only just stumbled on this page and you're wondering what all this spoon carving business is about, well let's just say that it's a space where craft and meditation gently greet. It blows away your worries and for a while there it's just you and your spoon. It's happy slowness. Oh and you get to use really cool axes ;-)

Why not come to Spoon Jam on November 25 & 26, 2017 and find out for yourself!

Cheers and whittles,

Jeff - Spoonsmith

How The Funds Will Be Used

We're keeping it simple, so breaking the funds into two parts:

About $2500 for Jögge's return flight from Sweden to Australia.

And $1500 for his teaching fee.

Plus...

$500 to go towards postage of rewards

And $500 for advertising Spoon Jam.

If we get a massive slice of generosity pie from all you beautiful people and we end up going beyond the $5000 target, we'll put the money into the Spoon Jam Awesome Fund, which will be used for making the festival even better, help with advertising the event, and go towards paying for future spoon carving superstars at Spoon Jam 2018 and beyond!

The Challenges

Pretty much the only challenges we can see are:

1. Not raising all the money we need to fly Jogge here!

2. Jögge won't be allowed to carve spoons in the flight cabin :)

Spoon carving is all about dealing with challenges and finding a way for the knife to glide through wood. Us spoonies are good at that. No worries :)
