Monique Clare's Debut Album
Hello and welcome to the Pozible page for my DEBUT ALBUM!!!
I'm raising funds to get it to the finish line and reach as many people as possible. If you come on board now, you'll give this album wings. More importantly, you'll get to hear the album before anyone else does!
I started the album process back in January 2019 when I was on an artist residency at the Banff Center in the Canadian Rockies (the traditional lands of Nakoda, Blackfoot and Tsuut'ina people). It was a dreamy place to begin that work. I penned lyrics, arranged instrumental parts and recorded demos in a cosy studio while snow drifted down and deer grazed outside my window. Pretty romantic hey? I reignited my love of composing and arranging, which was something I did obsessively throughout highschool. I researched pedal harp notation technique. I blasted Bjork through the amazing studio speakers. I wrote observational and introspective songs covering topics like connection to land, teen depression, making soup and downhill skiing. And love of course - you can't escape that one. By the end I had a collection of songs that explore the darkness and light within humanity, the world and myself. It felt like a collection of songs that say "this is who I am right now".
Meanwhile, my main job was touring with The Maes. They had just released a fantastic album and we spent the next year touring it around Australia and overseas. I also played shows with Katie Noonan, Kate Miller-Heidke and some dude called Eminem. That was a wild rollercoaster and I had some of the most fun, interesting and insane times of my life.
But it did make it hard to, you know...actually record the album. I wedged recording sessions in between fragments of tours. I worked with various producers and engineers (listed below) and we bustled in and out of various studios across Meanjin (Brisbane) over that year. It's funny to reminisce on this, knowing that soon after, the world shut down and I ended up with a completely free schedule to finish the album! But at the time it felt like a mad race to the finish line. By March 2020 I felt like giving up on the whole thing. Turns out, I needed a break after two years of full time touring while chipping away at my own project. But I gradually found a way to rekindle that fire and throw myself back into shaping this album into a body of work I'm really proud of.
There's already one single out from the album, which you can listen to here. Or, you can just watch this short snippet from it featuring a silkie chicken.
Budget Overview
If you helped crowdfund my EP 'By The Stars', and you're back again to support my next project, then you are a legend and I thank you so much. That EP launched me into touring for the first time, and supported me through festivals around Australia and international showcases. This next project will be the first album I service to the media and launch with a full release campaign. Having crafted it so carefully and invested so much into it already, I want to give it the best chance at making an impact, which means hiring a publicist and making a kickass music video. The recording process has already involved so many creative workers. An album like this is really an ecosystem, with instrumentalists, producers, engineers, artists and designers all involved. I love that. But the costs add up to something quite substantial, and that is why I need your help at this pivotal moment.
Breakdown of the album costs
Tracking, Producing, Mixing and Mastering - $6540
Studio Hire - $4220
Session Musicians - $1420
Artwork & Graphic Design - $500
CD Pressing - $2513
Vinyl Pressing - $3071
Publicity - $7700
Advertising - $500
Video Production - $3300
TOTAL = $29 764
Stretch Goals
Current: $10 000
My current goal covers CD pressing, Vinyl pressing, artwork and design, video production and basic advertising.
$15 000
If we knock over the original goal, this stretch goal will additionally cover running a full publicity campaign on the album and two singles! This is so worthwhile, because having invested so much time and money into this album, it would be heartbreaking to see it fall short of reaching all the people who may potentially love it.
$20 000
"Tell her she's dreaming!". Yeah, well, just putting it out there. This would nearly cover the whole cost of the album. It would put me in a position to begin tackling the next activities associated with an album cycle like touring nationally and internationally (fingers crossed for the COVID vaccine!) and producing additional creative music videos.

Pop-up Op Shop - Red vintage dress from Japan
When I'm on tour around the world I stop in at various vintage and second hand stores. This dress came from one in Newcastle, and is a gorgeous vintage dress from Japan. I love it so much, but alas it's too narrow to play cello in! I would love it to find a new owner who will love it and wear it like it deserves to be. Plus you'll be supporting my music in the process! Would fit sizes 6-10 (there's an adjustable waist tie). Additional photos on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moniqueclaremusic/
Pop-up Op Shop - Vintage Blue Dress
When I'm on tour around the world I stop in at various vintage and second hand stores. I love the fabric on this dress something fierce - but it's a little too roomy on me and a bit too narrow to play cello in. Should fit sizes 10-12.
