Kings Cross has long been known as Sydney’s sin city, a world-famous playground of neon-lit indulgence, bohemia and excess. 

Consistent throughout its rich and infamous history has been change and evolution. From windmills and wealthy estates to diverse migrant influxes and wartime follies for American sailors. From Australia’s first drag shows and flourishing gay community to an epicenter for artists, musicians, writers and eccentrics. From an entertainment and red light district catering for every taste and depravity, to a dangerous hotbed for drug addicts and criminals.

And now, since the lockout laws, it’s transitioning again, from Sydney’s party central to a village of gastronomy, mixology, arts and community.

This shift has been extremely controversial, with locals and media bemoaning the reduction in late night revelry. We were motivated to bring to life the positive and exciting changes happening in our neighbourhood and celebrate our tight-knit and innovative community. 

It turns out that we weren’t alone in this, as the response for the book has been overwhelmingly positive and locals have been generous with their time, stories and of course, incredible recipes.

This book is spot on for anyone who wants a secret weapon dish or cocktail in their arsenal, foodies, design lovers and the culturally curious. It is a special limited edition and piece of social history that is truly collectible and covetable.

You don’t have to be a local to love this book – just a lover of life.

We feel a strong connection to The Cross as our home – we believe that it’s a unique community, and in our time here we’ve met (and eaten and drunk from!) many of the wonderful local businesses that give our area the vibrant and varied flavour it has today.

We were chuffed to find out that we were WINNERS at the Australian Book Design Awards and couldn’t wait for the opportunity to design another successful and beautiful book. We are also finalists for print and identity in the 2016 Australian Graphic Design Awards, so we know we still have the touch.

Time is running out! Christmas is nearly upon us and this is your chance to drop a not-so-subtle hint about the present you'd like this year…

The book has been curated, written, designed and is ready for production. We just need help to get a decent first edition print run happening!

Our experienced design studio has a strategic approach to every creative problem and are used to meeting hard deadlines without compromising on quality – we do it for our clients every day!

To ensure we deliver every project on time (and on budget) we develop a realistic project plan, which is supported by our skilled team and close relationships with suppliers.

We will be proofing the print onsite, here in Sydney, at our very experienced printers, liaising with them regularly. These guys have been specialising in publishing books for nearly 40 years, so they really know what they’re doing and get awards for their efforts to boot!

The content and design for the book are all sorted, so now it is simply a matter of getting enough support to meet our planned print deadline, wrap, pack and get them in the post for you, ready for Christmas. That’s why this is a short campaign – we need you now!
