Pretty Face is the story of Lucy (Cameron Rouse), a young singer who is accused by her rival Aaron (Sam Corlett) of only succeeding based on her looks. With the help of friends Mya (Ellen Robson) and Jason (James Rankin) she attempts to forge her own identity, much to the ire of her mother Mary (Alex Jones).

With an 70's/80's look and great music to boot, Pretty Face will be a fun colourful drama about friendship, identity and finding your own way in the world.

Pretty Face is a short film being developed by the students of the WA Screen Academy. It features some of the most talented third year actors from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), as well as local musicians and composers.

Ellen Robson as 'Mya'

Throughout the 3 years of training, Ellen has had the pleasure of playing some wonderful roles such as Rose Draper in The Blind Giant is Dancing, Audrey in As You Like It and Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible. Ellen is playing Mya in Pretty Face; “As a musician, I am super excited to dive back into the world of a musician, to sing and have a blast on stage. I love the meaning of this story, to not let your looks define what you can and can’t do.”

James Rankin as 'Jason'

Potential Challenges

There are a few major challenges for this film.

Firstly, we need an exciting location for our performance scenes, within a reasonable budget.

Secondly our composers, lyricist and actors need to work together to come up with a stellar final performance. This will also be a challenging scene for our cinematographer, location sound and director to capture.

Finally, we will need to recruit and feed a large number of extras so the world of the film feels dynamic and populated.

Thanks for all your support! We appreciate you and your beautiful faces.
