You know that gnawing feeling you keep getting in your stomach?

The one you get when you cook dinner, and realise you’ve got a whole bagful of wrappers and rubbish leftover after just one meal…

Or when you’re covering your child in lotion, and you notice the lengthy list of 6-syllable ingredients plastered on the label…

Or when you realise that the strawberries you’ve just been wolfing down were shipped in from Peru…

Moments like these make you squirm with discomfort.

You feel frustrated. Powerless. Out of alignment.

And the same thought keeps popping into your head, over and over again:

‘Surely there’s a better way to live than this… right?’

Our fast-paced world places more value on convenience than integrity.

We’re constantly bombarded with flashy new convenience ‘foods' that our grandmothers wouldn’t even recognise as edible.

Our homes keep filling up with stuff (plastic toys, random appliances, clothes we don’t even wear) faster than we can declutter them.

Our kids are growing up with their eyes glued to electronic devices, believing that milk comes from a carton, and that veggies grow on plastic-wrapped trays.

Then, of course, there’s the waste…

It’s cheaper to buy a new kettle than it is to replace the tiniest part on your old one.

New purchases arrive swaddled in packaging — the box filled with more polystyrene than product.

And the supposedly ‘fresh’ produce you get from the grocery store goes off in a ridiculously short period of time, leaving you feeling slightly sick as you toss yet another bag of slimy spinach in the trash.

Of course, all this ‘convenience’ comes at a cost…

We pay a small fortune every week at large supermarket chains that care more about their bottom line than they do about their customer’s health, the environment, or small, independent producers trying to do the right thing.

And that’s not even the biggest price we’re paying. Not by a long shot…

We’re not as happy as we used to be. Rates of depression are through the roof, and way too many of us are rushing through life feeling a vague sense of dissatisfaction that we can’t quite put our fingers on.

Most of us are carrying excess kilos we can’t seem to shift, there are more allergies and intolerances than ever before, and feelings of fatigue are the new norm.

Basically, we're suffering a whole host of health issues that all stem from a sedentary lifestyle combined with a diet full of fake foods that our bodies don’t even recognise.

And on top of that, we’re slowly pushing this beautiful planet of ours to breaking point, with very little thought for the future…

It’s enough to make you want to run away to a commune in a forest, just to recover a little of the simplicity you crave.

Then, of course, you come to your senses and remember that that’s not realistic: Your life is here, in the suburbs.
Which means the mindful, meaningful life you dream of simply isn’t possible… Or is it?

What if there was a way to live a beautiful, sustainable life, WITHOUT having to escape to the countryside,
or turn your back on the modern world?

With Self-Sufficiency in the Suburbs it’s completely possible…

And you can do it right here, right now, as part of your ordinary, everyday life. Please, help me show you how …..

So what exactly is Self-Sufficiency in the Suburbs?

In short, it’s an online course and membership club that will help you live a more self-sufficient life in our modern world.

This exclusive club combines practical tools + insanely useful how-to’s, with a gorgeous community of like-minded souls, to support you as you journey towards a better, simpler, more sustainable way of living.

Membership includes exclusive and unlimited access to:

Here's what's covered in the training modules:

All of this training is incredibly useful, but let it be said: What you get out of this program is so much more than just learning how to cook, or garden, or save a few hundred bucks on your bills each month…

With Self-Sufficiency in the Suburbs, what you’re REALLY getting is…

  • FREEDOM – You won’t have to rely on supermarkets or global corporations. Increasing your self-sufficiency gives you so much more choice, so much more power, and allows you to truly ‘walk your walk’.
  • PRIDE – You’ll have the relief of knowing that you’re (finally) living in alignment with the ideals you hold close to your heart. You’ll experience so much satisfaction from your new lifestyle, and your newfound confidence will spill over into other areas of your life.
  • CERTAINTY – You’ll know exactly what you’re feeding your kids, putting on your skin, cleaning your house with, all of it. You’re in control (and boy does that feel good!).
  • AND A LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE – Not only will you be making the world a better place for future generations, you’ll be having an immediate impact on your children, by modelling for them a meaningful existence based on respect, mindfulness, and living for what you believe in.

And, of course, all of this is accompanied by a tribe of sisters who’ll support you every step of the way…

Here's how it could look!!

About Me Plus Some of My Other Work

Please take a look at my website for further information about me and my background.

I have a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering, a Masters of Science (in Environmental Chemistry) and spent 11 years working in industry as an environmental professional. My venture into the online world started in 2009 and coincided with the birth of my first son. After deciding during pregnancy that I didn’t want to combine motherhood with my established environmental career in the corporate world, I created Sustainababy, an online eco-parenting store which specialized in providing greener alternatives for conventional baby products.

My customers were keen to learn more about the “how” to live more sustainably, so in 2013 I started to package up my experience and knowledge into several eco-living e-courses, namely the Home Detox Boot Camp and greenHOUSE Home Energy Blitz. I also ran regular webinars on sustainable living topics and my following grew quickly.

I juggled my eco-parenting retail business around my growing young family for over five years, but despite making a much-needed impact in the eco-parenting space, I yearned to make a bigger impact on a broader eco-living scale. In 2015 I made the difficult decision to pass Sustainababy over to her new owner and I focussed on inspiring and educating the wider population to live sustainably.

I’ve won numerous regional and national awards for my fresh and inspiring take on living an ‘ecoceptional’ life (including most recently winning the Brand South Australia Flinders University Education Award (2015) for the north-west region in SA and silver in the Eco-friendly category of the 2015 Ausmumpreneur Awards).

With a weekly sustainability segment on ABC Radio 639 North and West South Australia, Eco Chat Podcast in iTunes and with my work featured in publications like Nurture Parenting and My Child Magazine, I’m often referred to as an eco-thought leader who’s not afraid to challenge the status quo.

I’m a passionate believer in addressing the small things to achieve big change, and protecting the planet in practical ways. I live with my husband and two young sons in Outback South Australia.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Your pledged funds will be spent on designing and developing the centrepiece of the campaign, the Self Sufficiency in the Suburbs online training portal as well as covering videography and administrative support in creating the training modules.

The chart below shows the breakdown of the target, which includes other costs such as the Pozible campaign fees, transaction fees as well as reward overheads.

After receiving quotes from a number of businesses, Australian businesses Ellissa Jayne Creative and local Outback Videographer Travis Hague (Lonely Oak Films) have been chosen as they not only offered the best value-for-money, they’re also passionate about sustainability and would love to see the project become a reality.

Any excess funds raised will go towards marketing to help spread the messages of sustainability and self sufficiency as far and wide as possible and for additional resources and costs (e.g. administration and graphic support, trademarking costs) to help finalize the training materials.

All pledgers will be kept “in the loop” with updates at every stage of the development of the membership portal.

The Challenges

I appreciate that changing people’s mindset and behaviour is not an easy task. This is why I’ve dedicated the entire first module of Self-Sufficiency in the Suburbs to the topic of developing an eco-mindset and the practicalities of running a sustainable home.

I also have many ‘runs on the board’ when it comes to transforming people’s behaviour, as evidenced by the large number of graduates from my Home Detox Boot Camp online program who have managed to break up with synthetic chemicals in their home, for good!

I’ve been told by critics in the past that online environmental programs won’t interest the wider population and won’t sell, but with thousands of people tuning into my free training webinars and many of these going on to participate in my current programs (greenHOUSE Home Energy Blitz and the Home Detox Boot Camp), I am confident that Self Sufficiency in the Suburbs will grow a strong following and will change lifestyles (and lives) along the way.
