A crowd funding appeal in October and November to raise $1500 towards the cost of a seat to commemorate Stan Marks was successful.

‘Stan’s Seat’ is now in place at Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve, and will soon bear a plaque honouring him.

It has a pleasant view with the Brindabellas in the distance. It can be found at 35° 9' 53.04" S 149° 9' 1.68", about half a kilometre from the car park.

The Seat is one of a number being created for Mulligans Flat by the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust, with sponsorship of $6,500 per seat to support the important work of the Wildlife Sanctuary.

The remaining $5000 was provided by Stan’s family, and the plaque will remain in place for 10 years.

However a number of Club members and friends of Stan have told us they missed the article in the November CBC newsletter, It, publicising the Stan’s Seat appeal.

Fortunately, ACT  Parks and Conservation have also given permission for a more permanent plaque to be placed with a small memorial elsewhere in Mulligans Flat, with slightly longer wording.

A quote has been received for $1600 for a small granite rock with a permanent brass plaque to be placed off the beaten track in the bush above the track Betong and Antichinus gates (at 35° 9' 22.79" S 149° 9' 51.02", 2.6km from the car park).

The appeal for Stan’s Seat was over-subscribed by $300, so we are now seeking funding of $1300 to cover the cost of ‘Stan’s Rock’.

This is an opportunity to give Stan a lasting memorial in the place where he led many a pleasant walk on summer evenings, and where he wished his ashes to be scattered.

Should the $1300 be oversubscribed, extra proceeds will go towards Canberra Bushwalking Club.

Stan served as a committee member over 12 years, including four years as President, and was a recipient of the Greg Buckley award.
