OUR FILM'S MESSAGE

In Australia, domestic violence is far too common and has increased during the Covid pandemic. Our short film, STAY WITH ME TONIGHT, raises awareness for those victims of violence and abuse.

Domestic and family violence involves abusive and violent behaviour towards a partner, former partner or family member. It extends beyond physical violence, and can involve tactics to control, humiliate or scare the other person or people in the household.

On average, 1 woman a week and 1 man a month is killed by a current or former partner in Australia.

The pandemic provided the perfect conditions for violent and abusive perpetrators, particularly during recent Covid lockdowns. They had full control of their victims who were unable to get the support they needed.  For those who had experienced violence and abuse in an intimate relationship amidst the pandemic, two thirds of victims reported an escalation in violence or abuse, or they experienced violence for the first time during the lockdowns.

We believe as filmmakers, the only way for these statistics to reach zero is to shed light on the abuse and psychological recovery these victims must go through. In doing so, we as Australians can look out for the telltale signs of domestic violence and provide support where it's needed most. 

SYNOPSIS

STAY WITH ME TONIGHT is a psychological thriller that explores themes relating to isolation, relationships and domestic violence.

Ruby and Ella initially meet as roommates and get along as new friends. However, Ruby's past trauma affects her ability to trust. It seems her abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Alan, haunts her still. Ruby has found a new boyfriend, Will, however, Will has been working away from home in Cairns. The physical distance, as well as Ruby's loneliness and growing paranoia, burdens their relationship.

Through Ruby's harrowing experience, the audience is confronted with the exposed side of domestic violence and the long term effects on its victims. 

STAY WITH ME TONIGHT is a short film in the style of THE INVISIBLE MAN, HIDE AND SEEK and BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP.

This film provides an insight into the aftermath of domestic violence that is not commonly known amongst the general population. We believe this story not only raises awareness for the female victims of domestic violence but will also shine a light on the holes of our justice system.

This film is currently in the post-production stage with pre-production and filming completely self funded up until now.

We represent an emerging film company named AFTER YOU PRODUCTIONS. This film company specialises in horror and thrillers. As female co-directors and producers, we create films that explore all your personal fears through a female lens.

We believe in high quality thrillers and horror films that are believable and unique in their storytelling. Our stories involve friendship, serious issues in society and quirky relationships.

Filmmaking is our passion and we can't wait to produce more Australian films. Through fundraising, we can provide a proper wage to fellow artists and support the Australian film industry.

All these roles are vital for us to successfully finish this film which will premiere in various international film festivals. 

These roles will be done by experienced professionals and we want to provide these creatives with a proper wage.
