WHAT IS THE CAMPAIGN ABOUT?

Our campaign is about celebrating female photographers. In 2017 women had a strong voice at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale (representing 52% of our participants). In 2019 we are launching an exciting new initiative to continue this focus and we would love your support.

Each festival (23 August - 20 October) we will be showcasing a major solo exhibition of an exceptional female artist working internationally today. This year we will be presenting the extraordinary work of French artist Noémie Goudal in the beautiful Williamson Gallery at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.

Goudal is known for her ambiguous landscape images which "bring real and theoretical geographies into coexistence, creating a space between physical reality and its mental representation". (Goudal)

We are very excited to be presenting Telluris, a captivating site specific architectural installation; which progresses Goudal's earlier investigations into the sky, to focus upon the earth.

The exhibition takes its inspiration from the artist’s interest in the ancient theories of the earth’s relief; the geometrical frameworks that ancient thinkers used to better understand the earth and how it came to exist.

Goudal’s ambiguous installations show us how the art of image making can help us to slow down and think about the world and our place within it differently.

As Goudal said of her particular kind of image making:

“For me an image is a place that you can visit and revisit. It isn’t a place that you capture for a second, it is a place you can live in”. To find out how to dwell in an image, you will have to come and look… closely.

Budget Overview

We are seeking your support to raise $5,000.

These funds will help us to cover some of the timber set build (materials, fabrication, delivery) and speciality framing needed which are central to the cultivation of the artist's desired perceptual experience. We would love to tell you more but you know the drill!

Other costs are accounted for in our organisational budget - including artist fees which we pay in accordance with NAVA better practice rates.

Note: For those new to crowdfunding, Pozible campaigns are "all-or-nothing". If we don't hit the target, we get nothing (and supporters will not be charged). If we hit or exceed our target, we keep all of the funds and we are winning for women!
