Prince-Wright Productions has again been presented with a wonderful opportunity to bring to life an incredible film script which is set in the heart of regional Western Australia. 

Prince-Wright Productions is a boutique, not-for-profitproduction company. It consists of a team of directors, writers and producerswho have won film awards both nationally and internationally. The company’s aimis to bring stories to life in a way that is entertaining and educating. Ourproductions always have a strong community focus and we work closely with localgovernments to ensure they are involved in a way that allows them to promote,support and showcase the magical qualities of their towns and shires to a wideraudience. We are committed to involving the families and children of these (often remote) locations. Essentially, we hope to bring something new and unique which will provide all involved with a positive experience that theywill never forget.

Never before has a production set in colonial times, of this magnitude, been made. Western Australia has a long and fascinating history that offers a lot of insight into contemporary society and culture. Many intriguing stories of outlaws and their past lie hidden within historical buildings and amongst the vast landscapes and terrainsthat are sprinkled throughout this stunning state. Also of great importance is the vital role played by our Indigenous people in the establishment of many Western Australian towns during the early 1880s. The Decadent and Depraved focuses on involving the Indigenous communities as well as the shires throughout the state, in a bid to tell the audience a truthful story. We aim to broaden the types of stories told here in Western Australia and showcase the appeal of this magical state to a more diverse audience throughout the world. 

Our talented actors are cast and ready to bring their unique and complex characters to life. The film features Michael Muntz (A Country Practice), Ben Mortley (McLeod's Daughters, Home and Away, Drift, Cloudstreet ), Steve Turner (Black Swan Theatre's Tartuffe, When The Rain Stops Falling ) and Clarence Ryan (Lockie Leonard ) leading an all-star, extremely talented cast. Also on board are international award winning filmmakers lining up with the WAAPA trained designers, production designers, and national leading stage combat choreographer/director.  Whist the film is ambitious it is absolutely achievable with such an amazing team at the helm.

SYNOPSIS

In a remote and dark place in the outback of Western Australia, Leon leaves his wife and child in a bid to ensure their safety. He is a wanted man but plans to surrender himself into the hands of Her Majesty’s army to be hanged. Unbeknownst to Leon, shortly after his departure his wife is murdered in cold blood. To make matters worse, their daughter Lillian is captured by a bunch of evil bounty hunters, led by the cruel and gruesome priest, Maitland. A tale of cat and mouse begins shortly thereafter as Leon is transported by Police Captain, Jack Dalton, on route to be hanged in the local town. Dalton’s hopes for a trouble-free journey are quickly dashed as he is faced with a series of difficult obstacles – all consequences of transporting such a high value target. Within the ever-changing terrain of Western Australia, the truth about Leon’s crime and his motives for seeking punishment are revealed, leading everyone through a chaotic tumble of revenge and murder.

Imagine a film that combines the classic western genre of The Magnificent Seven (1960) with the gunfights and thriller action of Tombstone (1994) and Django Unchained (2012), all with the cinematic pleasure of Open Range (2003) all fused together with the gritty realism and performances of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) and True Grit (1969/2010) set right here in Western Australia.

We have a magic crew, talented cast and so many people already doing so much to support us. The challenge we face now is having the funds to ensure those working so hard are looked after with nutritious food, safe and reliable transport and basic needs such as blankets for those chilly country nights! It is an ambitious project but the first block of shooting has returned some INCREDIBLE footage. We want to make sure we can stretch the budget so that we can not just complete the production phase, but do it in a way that honours the efforts and talents of those on board.
