Today, we face the greatest opportunity to develop more and better housing for people with a disability of any generation in Australia. The challenge now is to seize the opportunity with both hands and drive growth and change within the challenging environment of the National Disability Services (NDIS) rollout. This will not be easy but, ultimately, will profoundly improve the lives of many people with a disability: a great reward in itself.

This book will provides information about the NDIS and its development, details of current supply and the proposed SDA policies. It explores funding and growth opportunities and presents a framework to support the analysis of any housing project for people with a disability. Finally, it looks at the implications of some key policy directions such as separation of housing and support and choice of provider.

I having written this book drawing on my 30 years of experience in developing and delivering  housing and services to people with a Disability across Australia. It would be great if this book were to be a comprehensive guide to housing for NDIS participants written by an all-knowing expert. Unfortunately, it is not – nor can such a guide be produced (or expert exist) at this stage of the NDIS development and rollout. The NDIS is simply too large and dynamic to be ‘knowable’ even in one defined area such as housing.

What this book does provide, hopefully, is background and framework for dialogue, discussion, and learning (including me). We do after all have over thirty years of successful (and unsuccessful) practice in helping people with a disability live independently (with support) in our community.

Budget Overview

The cost to take the current edited manuscript through to placing books in people's hands will be $3,100.

Potential Challenges

The big challenge is to get information out to people that is both accessible and accurate, not an easy feat in this changing environment of the NDIS world. This is why I have gone for short print runs of clearly marked editions (this being Edition 1.0).

No Reward

I choose to have no reward for my pledge but I am a strong supporter of this important work, so I’m pledging my support!
