HELLO CHANGE-MAKERS!

Clare Press here. If we haven't met yet, I'm a journalist, ethical fashion advocate and author. You might know me as Vogue's first ever sustainability editor and the presenter of the Wardrobe Crisis podcast. I also sit on the Australian advisory board for Fashion Revolution, and am a Global Ambassador for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's Make Fashion Circular initiative.

I am passionate about telling stories that focus on social and climate justice, protecting our environment, and using our creativity to create a fair fashion system. I love clothes too.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP ME KEEP MAKING THE WARDROBE CRISIS PODCAST.

THE PODCAST

FREE to subscribe in iTunes and Spotify. Also available to listen via clarepress.com

Each week, I interview designers, change-makers, academics, creatives and fashion insiders about fashion, ethics, the environment and sustainability. My listeners are in Australia, Europe and the US and include key industry leaders globally.

I've collaborated with Fashion Revolution, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, WOMADelaide, the Sustainable Living Festival (Australia) and the UN's Ethical Fashion Initiative to produce our shows. I've even recorded inside the House of Lords in London (for an Episode on modern slavery featuring Baroness Lola Young of Hornsey). The podcast has been written up by The Australian, Sunday Times Style (UK) and Elle Canada.

THE CAMPAIGN

In 2017, I launched WARDROBE CRISISas an extension of my book of the same name, convinced that I should share my access to some of the biggest thinkers in this space, as well as my knowledge, ideas and research about how, together, we can transform the fashion industry and build a more sustainable future.

WARDROBE CRISIS is about building community and inclusivity around a common purpose: making fashion more sustainable. It has been a labour of love, a thrilling ride, and a beautiful conversation. I don't want it to end, but I can't sustain this on my own.

I am committed to keeping the podcast content free so that there are no barriers to access.

And I need your help to keep doing it.

This campaign is to fund Series 3.

GET INSPIRED BY SERIES 1 & 2...

Yes there's frocks. There's fashion week, diversity, body image, the power and role of design. The business and madness of fashion. But don't think we stop there, oh no. Here are just a few of THE BIG ISSUES we've covered in our 68 Episodes so far:

In an Episode with eminent Australian climate scientist, Tim Flannery, recorded on Heron Island 70ks off the Queensland Coast, we discussed the impacts of global warming on the Great Barrier Reef, and what's being done about it. Did you know that if fashion were a country, it's carbon emissions would be about equivalent to Russia's? You do now.

We talked to Christina Dean, founder of Hong Kong based NGO Redress about FIGHTING FASHION WASTE. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the average number of times a garment is worn before it ceases to be used has decreased by 36% compared to 15 years ago. In the US clothes are only worn for around a quarter of the global average. Meanwhile clothing production has doubled. We now produce around 100 billion garments a year, and of this total fibre input, 87% ends up landfilled or incinerated. Time for a change, eh?

ADDRESSING PLASTIC POLLUTION is an issue close to our hearts. We learned the basics from Tim Silverwoodwe took a deep dive with sea birds scientist Dr Jennifer Lavers, and engaged our inner artivist with Marina Debris. Best of all - now we 're doing something about it. Calling all eco warriors!

Here's what our listeners have to say. (Reviews from iTunes)

OUR BRILLIANT GUESTS

From thought leaders (Dame Ellen MacArthur, Dilys Williams, Cradle to Cradle guru William McDonough) to activists (Sara Ziff, Tim Silverwood) though ethical fashion icons (Safia Minney) and sustainability professionals (H&M's Anna Gedda).

From scientists (polar explorer Tim Jarvis) to supermodels (Lily Cole, Laura Wells). Designers (Roland Mouret, Christopher Raeburn, Kit Willow, Bianca Spender, Karen Walker) to the purpose-driven visionaries who've founded social enterprises (TOMs founder Blake Mycoskie, James Bartle of Outland Denim, Jackie Ruddock from The Social Outfit). We're bringing their insights to your ears.

Budget Overview

My goal is to fund Series 3

If we reach our intial target of $5000 before the end of the campaign, I will be able to pay for 10 shows to go live.

$5,000 won't pay for my time (which I will continue to dedicate for free) but it will cover my costs for:

Sound editing + production at $500 per episode.

My big picture aim is to raise a total of $13,275 which will pay for a complete season of 26 episodes + my APRA music licence renewal $275.
