Water for Datom Concert
In 2007, Dr Thomas Connor and co, begun a healthcare project in Datom, India. After a great start and the development of a local charity, Traditional Healthcare India, construction of the hospital has reached a holt. One of the reasons is lack of water supply. We are seeking to remedy this immediately by drilling a bore in December, and sending Doctor Thomas Connor (TCM) to Datom to re-invigorate the project.
JingSpace Lilydale will host a fun-raising event with an Indian Classical concert by Vinod Prasanna, Bansuri (flute) player. He comes from a long musical lineage and is considered a master of the instrument. Vinod will be accompanied by North Indian Tabla drum and will take the audience on a beautiful journey exploring Indian folk pieces and Classical repertoire. We will also be treated to a pre-documentary screening and talk by Takeshi Kondo and Dr Thomas Connor about their last visit to the site and documentary project. This is set to be a stunning night and we would love to see you all there. Tickets limited!
Event: 7-9 PM Friday 9th December
Jing Space, Lilydale

The need for this clinic is paramount, considering the long distances to the nearest medical facility, and high incidences of a range of debilitating health conditions.
With the water available, the first building can be completed (see below), and a temporary clinic will be able to begin running immediately. A bore equates to medical being delivered in Datom by early next year, immediately fulfilling the needs of the community!

The project in its entirety includes sustainable water catchment, so although at first the bore will be the primary source of water for building and activities, it will function as a back up supply for future years. Once the buildings are complete, regeneration of the landscape will take focus by planting trees and slowing the run off from the rain so the water tables, which are so deep, will be replenished when the monsoon comes. Water from rain will be harvested off the roofs and stored in tanks.
But right now, without the bore, we cannot possibly continue the site develpoment, building, permaculture gardens and providing health care in this community.
If you're seeking a way to support the global community, equal resources for all, pledge now and lets raise AUD$4000 to get this project back underway. As a token of your support, enjoy an evening at Jingspace, or we will gift you a beautiful protrait of the project, ready to hang in your home, office, or just in time for Christmas.
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will fly Doctor Thomas Connor (TCM), the project founder, to the site to oversee bore drilling in December. Whilst there he will conduct community consultation to develop stategy for completing the next stage of the project. The funds will cover wages for the construction, as well as back pay a number of outstanding wages from earlier this year for the on-site local project staff. If we exceed the $4000 in pledges the funds will be used to begin construction of water-free toilets on site, that harvest biogas for cooking. The precious H20 won't be wasted by flushing it.
The Challenges
We are challanged by the very short building season. Construction can only take place in the dry season, once monsoon hits, its impossible. The building that has been completed thus far was done by carrying water by hand to the site, which is partly why the project is in an early phase still. Our hope is that this dry season, the bore, and visit by Dr Connor will be the catalyst for a swift completion of this Healthcare centre.
Dr Connor will collaborate the community to develop strategies and plans for the next phase of development- the temporary clinic.
Many Thanks, Tom and the Datom community.
