Where Water Meets is Tasmanian chamber folk duo Yyan Ng and Emily Sheppard. We've been making and playing music together in caves, treehouses and mountaintops for almost a decade.

It's been 5 years since we released our debut album through pozible, cancelled our national tour and streamed live to people listening in from all over the world in their living rooms at the start of the pandemic. We've since performed on big festival stages, in cosy living rooms, on boats and at an Eel festival tent next to Lake Bolac in regional Australia.

We write our music slowly, lovingly and most importantly collaboratively in moments savoured between long drives, greenrooms, and back and forth in facebook messages. We play our emerging works to audiences and refine them for months or years before recording them at the studio.

In this way, we have been recording on and off in a beautiful old church by the river in Austin Ferry over past 5 years, deepening our relationship with Al Future (our sound engineer that did all production on our first album). We feel we have built on the soundworld we created and pushed the boundaries of acoustic songwriting and playing further on this album.

Our second album features more unconventional tunings and harmonies (both on guitar and violin), constantly changing time signatures and wonky grooves, telling a story of what it means to us to be living amongst Lutruwita/Tasmania's wild places.

We're going much bigger with this album! There’s a double viola string quintet, a banjo string sextet, solos on eel instruments and percussion from Réunion Island. Joining us we have our talented friends from Van Diemen’s Fiddles (Julia Fredersdorff and Rachel Meyers), the Bowerbird Collective (Anthony Albrecht and Simone Slattery), double bass player Isaac Gee, cellist Georgia Shine, Emily-Rose on Piano, Joe Hilel on banjo, and our favourite viral violist Katie Yap.

We’re coming into the final stages of recording, mixing and mastering and we need your help to pay all of our wonderful artists and get the album out in the world! Pre-order an album, or sign-up for one of our other rewards.

Bring your musical ideas to life

We can write you a song/tune of a subject you are passionate about, we can make a new arrangement of a favourite piece of yours, or we could arrange, play on and record your own original song/s! One of the pieces on our second album, "Where Water Meets" was commissioned during our first album Pozible campaign for a wedding present, which has also become our band name, so anything can happen! Songs are a powerful way to evoke a feeling, a moment in time and capture that in music form for safekeeping forever.
