SPECIAL UPDATE 5/4/13

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that, because of so many marvellous and generous pledgers, my pozible campaign has reached the target amount of $1000! It has only been a week since I launched the campaign, and it feels amazing knowing that I am supported by so many lovely people! I can't say thank you enough!!

The exciting thing is that the campaign is still running for another 26 days, which means there is heaps of opportunity for more lovely, marvellous and generous people to support me!The very first person to make a pledge to my campaign, Aaron Sanderson, wrote on my facebook wall today and said 'Lets aim for $2000'! And I thought, why not!!! Thanks Aaron for the inspiration and believing in my business.
SO, a little updateWhat will the money raised so far be used for?

The capital raised will be used for the establishment costs of my business:

- registering my business name

- insurance

- web site creation and domain name registration

- business cards and flyers

- minor acquisitions, like plinths & museum wax

What will any additional money raised be used for?
- A much better website, designed by a professional
- An new exhibition in June featuring local emerging artists (Currently in planning)
- Some money towards the costs of travel to Sydney for an unpaid 12 week internship I am undertaking with some really cool professional curators!

I am so excited about starting my business and am so thankful that I have such a great network of support. It's thanks to all of you generous pledgers that I am able to get such a great start in my business!!!
x Adele

Hi!

My name is Adele Sliuzas, I am an Adelaide based independent Curator and Arts Writer. This is me (on the right) with artist Claire Marsh standing next to her work at the opening of 'The Beginning of the End' an exhibition that I curated last year!

I started off studying to be an artist, but soon realised what I love doing is working with artists and with words & ideas. Thats why I changed my major to history and theory and started taking on curatorial roles! You can read about some of my curatorial projects and check out my arts writing on my blog http://murmurandstutter.blogspot.com.au !

I am really passionate about what I do and I have a lot of ambition, so I have recently decided to turn this into my business! I am currently undertaking Certificate IV in Small Business Management, which is teaching me SOOOO much about how to run a business. The combination of my skills & experience as a curator, and my training as a business person will mean that my venture is sure to succeed!

Thats where this Pozible Campaign comes into it; I need help starting my business!
As I stand, I don't have a lot of money to throw around, essentially I am a starving curator (like a starving artist). To start my business I have a few fairly minor start up costs that I have been made aware of through the Small Business Training. These start up costs are mostly little things, like insurance, registering business names and trademarks, and getting a website started, but they all add up. I have my own money invested, but it isn't quite enough. That is why I need your help to get together some 'working capital' (that's a term I learnt in business training!).

A core component of my business is supporting local talented and emerging artists! So, in supporting my business the benefits will flow on to all the artists I am involved with.

What I'm Doing:

As a Curator and Arts Writer I will be providing a professional service curating for gallery spaces and writing for publication. These are my real passions in life, and I am looking forward to this being my full time job!

My next project is an exhibition I am curating at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation in May. The exhibition features five artists, Lisa Harms and Roy Ananda from Adelaide, and Will French, Carla Liesch and Julian Day from Sydney. Bloom-Space is a collaborative and context specific exhibition that explores the idea of affective space.

Alongside my creative goals, I will be providing a curatorial service for local businesses. Titled Art/Space, the service will bring original artworks by local artists into office environments. The idea is that local businesses and local, emerging artists have a lot to offer each other. As a curatorial consultant, I will be using my expertise to hand pick and install artworks in office spaces around the city!

I am currently writing a business plan, so you can be assured that I am going into business with the best training and high ambition. I have a really good idea about where my business is going over the next two years; thats right, I have projections for April 2015!

Why Support Me?

It is an opportunity to support the arts!
By helping me out you will also help all of the local emerging artists that I promote and exhibit.
You will be supporting a young curator to make it in a competitive industry, you will be part of my success story!
