OFF GRID is a group exhibition of 9 Australian artists working in contemporary textile practice at BLINDSIDE gallery in Melbourne, in September 2016.

OFF GRID exhibits new works by innovative contemporary artists who challenge the history of textiles as well as the cloth grid that defines most textiles by using the medium in unexpected ways. Within this, OFF GRID traverses conversations about identity, gender, environment and the body.

OFF GRID artists are Nicole Breedon, John Brooks, Elisa Jane Carmichael, Eddy Carroll, Emma Collard & Cherie Peele, Troy Emery, Melanie Irwin and Dell Stewart.

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, provided that we reach our campaign target of $3600.



OFF GRID is a curated exhibition that engages emerging artists, curators, writers and graphic designers as well as provides them with professional development, networking opportunities, collaborations and cross-pollinations.

OFF GRID offers audiences the opportunity to engage with hands-on, vibrant and accessible contemporary art practice as well as workshops and talks.



OFF GRID is curated by emerging curators Josephine Briginshaw and Adriane Hayward.

How The Funds Will Be Used



Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $3600.

If we reach our target they will match it! So for every dollar you give - we get two!

This is what we would like to fund:

+ Help us to pay for gallery space rental at BLINDSIDE ($2100)

+ Help us to pay for freight of artwork and installation materials ($700)

+ Help us to pay the artist's exhibition fees to enable the creation of new work for the exhibition ($1450)

+ Help us to publish a catalogue, making sure the project lives on after the exhibition ($900)

+ Help us to buy materials for workshops and artist talks as well as pay the artists to run them ($1050)





The Challenges

Our greatest challenge is to reach the intended target goal of $3,600 in order to receive our Creative Partnerships Australia Match Funding. If we do not make the target we will have to pay gallery rental and install/freight costs out of our own pocket. All workshops & talks will be cancelled, artist fees will not be paid and we will not be able print a catalogue. This would be a great disappointment to us as we think these are vital community engagement elements of a contemporary art exhibition.

Join artist Troy Emery for a talk about his practice and why he loves donuts, whilst sampling delicious donuts kindly provided by Donut Shop. Elisa's Weaving Workshop

Join artist Elisa Jane Carmichael for a weaving workshop at Blindside Gallery. Elisa will share her weaving techniques using recycled objects to make baskets and other items. Elisa Jane Carmichael belongs to the Quandamooka people of Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island in QLD. This workshop are only available through the OFF GRID crowdfunding campaign. Dell's Ice Dyeing Wkshop

Join Dell Stewart for an ice-dyeing fabric workshop. Ice-dyeing fabric is a fascinating method using fibre reactive dyes and ice to create ephemeral multicoloured patterns. We will experiment with cotton and linen fabric and various folding techniques. This workshop are only available through the OFF GRID crowdfunding campaign. Date: 1-5pm, Sun 25 Sep at Blindside.
