'The idea for Blessings first came to me in the form of images and characters, and was particularly inspired by the music of Oliver Tank and Burial. I wanted to explore the idea of a celebration turned inside out, and of beautifully vivid images intertwined with deeper, more philosophical themes. I found the idea of two stunning locations – a desert and a nightclub - to be both very beautiful and very contradictory in what they represent, and I intend to use these locations throughout the film to tease out some of the ideas that the script is based upon.

The characters in the film embody questions about the highly social, connected and extroverted existence that people in western society have come to idealise, and represent contrasts to this. I think everyone can relate to these themes at times, and I think that viewers will really connect to the characters, ideas and imagery of the film. Blessings can be seen as an exploration of the contrast between the highly artificial, synthetic and man made aspects of the world and the pure, unaffected beauty of the natural world, and the people in it.

Oliver’s music was a perfect fit for this kind of a story and imagery due to his inclusion of modern, synthetic and electronic elements coupled with more traditional instrumentation and composition. It’s been really amazing to have the opportunity to work with Oliver to create such a unique and special project, and we’re both so excited for the opportunity to bring this collaboration to life!'

WRITER & DIRECTOR: AISLINN LOWE                                     
Aislinn is a freelance film-maker, editor and artist based in Sydney. She's completing her Bachelor of Communication, majoring in Media Arts Production at the University of Technology, Sydney. She has worked on other small scale projects as a director, editor and cinematographer, and on short films Pirlo (2014 dir. Jordan Kirk) and Lucid (2014 dir. Alyson Rothwell) as first assistant director and assistant editor, respectively. Aislinn has a passion for music video, and hopes that this project will be an exciting way to explore the genres of music video and short film simultaneously, to combine her two key areas of interest: music and film.

                                           

SOUND DESIGN: OLIVER TANK
Oliver Tank burst seemingly out of nowhere with his own brand of incredibly textural glitch pop with his debut EPDreams in late 2011. Outside of winning rave reviews across the globe for his debut EP, Oliver’s whirlwind rise in profile was kicked off by winning FBi‘s Northern Lights competition which saw him flown over to Iceland to perform at Iceland’s Airwaves Festival.  In 2012 he supported Active Child, Youth Lagoon, Bonobo, Megan Washington at the Sydney Opera House, & Julia Stone, as well as playing his multiple sell out headline shows, which were followed by performances at The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City as well as headline shows in the UK, before coming back home to Australia to support Lana Del Rey nationally.

2013 saw Oliver Tank back with his second EP ‘Slow Motion Music’ which features collaborations with artist friends such as Ta-Ku, Hayden Calnin, as well as long-time friend and music collaborator Fawn Myers, and he is currently working on his next release, as well as working on the soundtrack for Blessings.



DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY: ALYSON ROTHWELL
Alyson has a passion for bringing raw emotions onscreen through her highly unique visual style. She has just come off the back of a number of exciting film projects,shooting runway shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and co-directing a film for a large scale stage production at the Australasian Hair Expo. You might have caught her latest music video for Amy Meredith on MTV, or seen some of her behind the scenes footage screened at last year’s Tropfest. Alyson has just finished a degree in Media Arts and Production at UTS, with one of her recent films taking out Best in Cinematography at the University's Golden Eye Film Awards in 2013.



PRODUCER: YIANI ANDRIKIDIS
Yiani is an ambitious filmmaker who just completed his Communications Degree at UTS. He has worked on numerous successful short films, television shows for ABC, SBS and Fox 8 and most recently had a role on an Australian Feature film called 'Alex and Eve'. He is a big fan of the local music scene and will help guide Aislinn's vision into a reality.



PRODUCER: JULIA CORCORAN        
Julia Corcoran is a recent UTS Communications (Media Arts Production) Graduate. She got into film for the love of the collaborative creative process that film making involves, and this is also one of the main reasons she got involved with 'Blessings'. She loved the idea of working with not only a passionate film crew, but also with a passionate musician. Her enjoyment for film has recently lead her to a position at Jungleboys, a local independent production company in Sydney were she hopes to further her love for this industry.  
                                       


PRODUCTION MANAGER and 2nd AD: JIMMY BAYSSARI
Jimmy Bayssari is a film, photography and creative enthusiast based in Sydney. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Communication (Media Arts & Production) at the University of Technology. He has worked as a photographer for the X Factor Live Tour, a Videographer for Stage Whispers and on a variety of other small scale projects. He has a passion for film and music and loves when the two merge to create something wonderful.

1st AD: JORDAN KIRK
Jordan is a freelance photographer, editor and filmmaker based in Sydney. He completed his degree in Media Arts and Production in 2014, and recently finished work on his latest short film, Pirlo (which he wrote, directed and edited), in June 2014. His main passions and interests lie in photography and creating music videos, and he is now working on a variety of film and photo projects.
