The Darwin Cabaret & Burlesque Collective (DCBC) and Cat's Meow of Alice Springs are collaborating to bring you the best Xmas Cabaret this town has ever seen!
Territory artists are working together in a skills development. Artist from the DCBC are working with the likes of amazing local talent - Levin Diatschenko (writer extraordinaire), Ellashaye D'More (Burlesque Queen), Milykia Scales and Melissa Kerl of Cats Meow (Alice Springs) fame.
DCBC has been bringing you quality cabaret & burlesque shows over the last 2 years, but it is time to up the game. We want to continue to create thrilling, entertaining shows that scintillate your senses. To do this we need to constantly be honing our skills - and what better way than to work with the talent we have right here in the Territory. Cats Meow has been as established cabaret group in Alice for eons, showing that the Desert guys & gals know the way to all that is glitter and glam! They have a few things that they can teach our newly formed Top End Collective (formed 2012).
From this skills development the Collective will put on a Xmas cabaret show to stop all cabaret shows in Darwin! Including local fame Vogue Magazine (Drag Queen), Trixie La Rouge (Burlesque performer), The wonderful circus performers, Liz Stagg, Jon Clarke & Donna Grossule, Legs Akimbo & Garry with 2 r's (Actor and Theatre makers), and Casey Glennon (local songstress)... With this much talent we need your help!
Putting on a show and developing skills is no small feat. We want to be able to pay each and everyone of our performers, as well as our mentors for sharing their skills with us. The Territory is large and bringing 2 performers from Alice to share their skills is costly - as I am sure anyone who has ever booked the Qantas flight will tell you! Please help support us so local Darwin performers can learn from experts to provide top quality entertainment to Territory audiences - and to help support and keep our artists in the Territory!
How The Funds Will Be Used
$1500 will:
*Pay 2 mentors for 20 hours of intensive workshops given to local artists (20 hours x $35/hour) or
*Pay for an ad to be made to promote the show ($2000) or
*Pay for 1 and 1/2 flights for 2 mentors to come up to Darwin from Alice Springs (flights are presently $731.00) or
*Pay for tech staff at Darwin Entertainment Centre ($50/hour x 20 hours = $1000)
The Challenges
Challenges include:
*Not being able to share our skills with other Territory artists
*Not being able to put on the show due to budget restrictions
We will work with local production managers, and many other artists and local experts who offer their time, love and expertise in kind to assist the collective!
