WHAT IS OZ?

Remember the good old days when you where able to go to a cinema and see some amazing Australian movies on the big screen? That time seems so long ago now for those of us with a passion for Aussie films.

Those fond old years of cinema have a name, it is called Australian New Wave, and if you saw a list of the films during that era you would definitely recognize most of them. With the advent of digital cinematic technology and the amazing financial help which is ‘crowd funding’, there is a new emergence within filmmakers in Australia that is just starting to take off.

The Wonderful Land of Oz is an experiment in melding these two distinctive film styles, which will result in a fully functioning outdoor cinema to be held at the Australian Regional Burning Man event, Burning Seed. Participants will be able to watch old classics as well as works from new emerging filmmakers all on the same screen.

WHAT FILMS MIGHT YOU BE SEEING AT OZ?

The Tunnel, 2011 [Click on image to see trailer]

Razorback, 1984 [Click on image to see trailer]

Wastelander Panda, 2012 [Click on image to see trailer]

and by popular demand, Mad Max 2; The Road Warrior, 1981 [Click on image to see trailer]

…not to mention many more great shorts and soon to be discovered classics from this wide brown land of ours. This year’s theme is based around horror, simply due to the curators perchance for this particular style of cinema. It should be noted however that in the future not every year would be like this.

WHO IS BEHIND THE WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ?

This is the brainchild of Alanjohn R Jones, the project stems from Alanjohn’s frustration at the seeming lack of knowledge within the greater viewing public of the exceptionally high quality of films produced in Australia.

Alanjohn was the co-effigy designer for Burning Seed for 2011 & 2012, coordinator of Burning Seed 2012, official Town Planner of Burning Seed and is an avid lover of Australian film. It is Alanjohn's hope that over time these screenings will become both a platform for new emerging filmmakers as well as the old classics.

It is his dream to give the opportunity of a free screening of this quality cinema to an ever-expanding number of participants from all over Australia & the world at the Burning Seed festival in October 2013.

WHY WE WOULD LIKE YOUR SUPPORT FOR OZ?

It could be said that crowd funding possibly started with the Burning Man festival in the US. Without the support of the participants’ contributions over the last 26 years, it would never have become the amazing experience it is today.

Burning Seed is the Australian Regional Burning Man event. This is a participant run festival where everyone buys a ticket and no one gets paid. We all put our own time and money into the organizing and running of this festival, as well as into the projects we bring to share with all participants.

As such, this project will only happen with your generous support. So please give until it hurts!

The Wonderful Land of Oz has secured the support of ‘The ARTery’, which is the funding body behind art grants at Burning Seed. The ARTery has agreed to fund $1,200 towards Oz. In order to be able to build and bring Oz to the festival this year, it will cost a minimum of approximately $2,200. Most of this will be in construction costs, as we are very lucky to have the majority of the films being donated this year. With this project down to bare bones, raising $1,000 will make sure that we can deliver what we are promising. The ARTery will then provide the much-needed rest of the budget. If we manage to raise more than $1,000 then we can do this bigger and better and really bring a cinematic experience to this festival in the aussie bush!

That good feeling you get when you know your individual donation has directly contributed to the distribution of Australian film. [Names listed on Facebook page]
