Hello,

My name is Alanna Lorenzon a Melbourne-based artist and I have an ambitious plan to further my artistic practice in Iceland in 2013.

I have been awarded a 2 month SÍM artist residency in Reykjavik for February and March as well as being selected to undertake a 2 month internship at The Living Art Museum also in Reykjavik.

But to get there I need your help! By making a donation to my project you will be investing in my future as an artist and as a very big THANKYOU from me to you, all contributions over $20 will receive an original artwork.

Visiting Iceland has been a long-held dream of mine. For years I have been accessing the imagery of Iceland's natural phenomena as source material for my drawing practice, see below. Or click here to visit my website and see more of what I make.

However, dreaming about lava fields and glaciers can only take my art making so far. First hand experience of this unique environment will provide me with an education in Icelandic wilderness that no amount of book-reading, google image searching or documentary-watching can emulate here in Australia.

A little bit more about the project:

During the SÍM Residency I will be sharing a studio space overlooking the ocean with 12 other international artists. This venue will provide me with the optimum environment for reflection, study and play: all essential elements for producing new creative work. I am full of ideas for new work that I will execute during my stay and I will be updating my website regularly with new work and developments.

The Living Art Museum is an artist run gallery founded in 1978. It focuses on exhibiting contemporary art and has a fascinating and varied history of exhibitions, performances, live music, lectures, symposiums and poetry readings. They even have their very own choir!

As an intern here I will be installing exhibitions and working with the museums collection and archive. As a newcomer to the country this internship will give me a fantastic access point to Iceland's contemporary art scene and history. It will also give me the chance to further my experience working with Artist Run Institutions that has begun with my time spent working at SEVENTH Gallery here in Melbourne.

After the residency and internship I will spend time visiting waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers and lava fields. Here I will collect field recordings, photos and videos as source material for new work.

In addition to this I have some specific artistic destinations I am very eager to visit, such as The Museum of Prophecies in Skagastrond, Roni Horn's site specific installation The Library of Water and Magnús Pálsson's Outsider and Folk Art Museum in Akuyeri.

How you can help???

Iceland is an expensive place to visit, return flights start at $3500 and the cost of living is expensive. Add to that art supplies and all the various costs of travelling and the price of fulfilling my dream expedition becomes very high. Although I am working hard to raise needed funds, February is coming up very quickly.

Any contribution you make will be invaluable to me in making this trip happen and as a very big THANKYOU, all contributions over $20 will receive an original artwork.

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou! Every dollar helps. Much appreciations.

You will receive an original postcard drawn, designed and produced by me during my stay in Iceland. * Please note that the image attached is intended as a comic prototype and not representative of the postcard you will receive...unless you would actually like a photoshopped image of me in the Icelandic landscape on your postcard.

You will receive an artist's book created during my stay in Iceland. Containing both text and images it will be a little microcosm of my travel experience. *Please note that the image attached is also intended as a comic prototype and that it is very unlikely that I will call the artist book "Aurora Drawealis"...but you can make a request for one like this if you're particularly into puns.
