The fabulous Real Housewife of Melbourne, Gina Liano, once said that Italian mothers parent their sons with the twin tactics of fear and guilt...

Having been raised in an Italian-Australian family, writer/director Alberto Di Troia can confirm that this is true. Thankfully though, he’s never met a mother nearly as terrifying as Maria Vitelli, the ferocious Italian housewife at the centre of our new bloodthirsty dark comedy, 'Blood Trust.'

Maria Vitelli is struggling to control the three men in her life: an immigrant father who’s gone totally senile; a teenage son, Anthony, whose only friend is his pet boa constrictor; and an ex-husband who’s been buried underneath their tomato garden since she murdered him fifteen years ago.

When Anthony becomes the target of school bullies, he decides that he no longer needs his mother’s protection to survive. Maria is forced to fight to keep control of her son and protect the secret that keeps her tomatoes big, red and juicy all year long.

'Blood Trust' has all the right ingredients for a big Italian party of a film – buried bodies, homicide, patricide, suffocation, pythons, tomato plants, antipasto, MILFS, naked selfies, replica renaissance statues, big hair, big bling, big chests, big heels, big performances – and now we need you to join the party to make sure it happens!

The 'Blood Trust' Team

Alberto Di Troia

Before being accepted into the Bachelor of Film & Television at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts, Alberto’s play Queenie Beth won honours at the South Australian State Theatre Young Playwrights Awards. For the 2011 Adelaide Fringe Alberto wrote and directed The Housesitters, a play about two murderous teenagers escaping from a doomsday cult. It had a totally sold-out season and critical success.

The screenplay for 'Blood Trust,' Alberto’s sixth short film at the VCA, was recently awarded the Orloff Family Charitable Scholarship. In 2013 Alberto, was also the recipient of the VCA's prestigious Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship.

He spends most of his time writing and waiting for care packages from his mother.

Laura Faulkner

Laura is an arts enthusiast – a lover of books, film and music – and is passionate about storytelling and collaborating with creative people to bring stories to life on the screen. She has 17 years of professional experience working in business administration and finance across a range of creative industries and has a business degree from RMIT University. She is currently completing her Juris Doctor at RMIT, and a Masters of Producing at VCA.

She was drawn to Alberto's last short film, 'Locker Room,' because of its emotional maturity and sophistication, and is now very excited to be collaborating with him on this project, which is a return to his love of films that are loud, vibrant, melodramatic, kitsch and entertaining.

Mamma mia, that’s a lot of dollars!

We’ve already found some of the money to make this happen, but now we need your help to get this mash-up of 'Real Housewives,' 'American Psycho' and 'Wog Boy' off the ground! It’s going to be fun, bloody and entertaining, and with your help, we can’t wait to splash it boldly right across the screen.
