Caboolture Fab Lab (CabFabLab)
What is the CabFabLab?
A place where you can learn to turn your dreams into real physical objects using a wide range of digital fabrication machines at highly discounted prices.
What can I find at the CabFabLab?
We have a wide range of digital
machines including a laser cutter, 3D printer, desktop milling machine,
large format CNC router, large format printer, large format laminator,
plastic line bender, vacuum former, as well as the experience and
software to leach you how to use these to solve your problems. As we
grow we will continue to add new equipment.
What can I do at the CabFabLab?
You can lean how to turn your dream
into a digital design, and from there make whatever you like as long is
it does not hurt anyone. This means you can make anything you like from a
laser cut mobile for your bedroom, a set of custom stickers for your
next batch of wine, or a complex prototype of your new product.
What do we need funds for?
We don't need funds to open our FabLab, that is happening and "We Are Ready".
Our FabLab will have most of the equipment recommended for a FabLab by the International Fab Lab Association, plus a great deal more than most other labs. However, it will lack a computer vinyl cutter and an electronics work station both recommended as core capabilities by the IFLA.
With 100% of funding we will add a computer controlled vinyl cutter to our equipment, and with 200% funding we will establish an electronics workstation for electronics projects. This will bring our FabLab up to an A Grade facility based on the IFLA equipment standards, and increase the range of projects that members can accomplish. If we get more than 200% we will continue to use these funds to add capability to the lab.
Why should I pledge any money?
We have two levels of pledge. The first is a discounted 12 months membership to the CFL, and the second is a discounted rate of all machine time you use during your membership. If you have a dream to build something, and you live near Caboolture, then your pledge will be the cheapest way for you to gain access to the CabFabLab and pay for any machine time that you use. (See our web site for more details)
We are also seeking corporate, government or educational sponsorship, so have one reward for such organisations. Corporate sponsors will be listed on our web site and mentioned in all media related activity. We expect as Queenslands only FabLab at this time to gain significant media attention.
Not sure yet, where would I find more information?
Full details about the CabFabLab can be found at http://www.pozieresprinting.com.au/cabfablab-1/
What if you don't make your target?
If you pledge to our campaign and we are not successful, you can still join the CabFabLab at our web site, but not at the discounted rate. We just will not be in a position to purchase our computer vinyl cutter or electronics work station until later. This means that you will could get your reward regardless of if we reach target or not, so no risk to you, but cheaper inside Pozible.
Still Not Sure?
The CabFabLab will have an open day on
Saturday 12 January 2013 from 9 am to 4 pm. Come down and check out the
facilities in person, and meet the staff. You will still have time to
make a pledge after the open day.
