After winning the Best
Performance and Best Production awards at The Blue Room Theatre in 2013, Happy
Dagger Theatre will take
'the boat goes over the mountain' to
the Adelaide Fringe from 17-23 February 2014.

Happy Dagger’s Artistic Director
Andrew Hale developed the piece after going to Peru and participating in a
series of ceremonies that involved drinking the entheogen
or hallucinogenic Ayahuasca, led by a traditional shaman
or Curandera.

“I was looking for a
mind-altering, life-changing experience, and I got it,” says Hale. “What I
needed for the play was a framework or a metaphor over which to structure this
journey. The fact that Werner Herzog battled to haul a 320-ton boat up a
40 degree slope for
Fitzcarraldo, his
film about a guy who attempts an
insane thing in the same jungle, was perfect.”
Described as a “thrilling performance piece”,
“mesmerising”, “darkly poetic and
comic” and “totally enthralling”, the season in The Adelaide Fringe will expose the show and it's creators to a national and international market.
