Our show will be on at the Old Fitzroy Theatre, 129 Dowling Street, Woolloomooloo, NSW 2011. Come along! It will be a great show. It will run 4-22 March, 2014.
'Tidy Town of the Year' is an absurd, fast-paced, black comedy that takes place in the cheap 'Traveller’s-Rest-Motor-Inn-Motel' in the small fictitious Australian town of Gandiddiyup. Three cleaners arrive at work to prepare a room for the minister for Tourism, who is coming to judge ‘Tidy Town of the Year’ – a prestigious title that could breathe life back into the dying town.
However, their day is turned upside down when they discover a bloody limbless body in the bathroom. Hilarity ensues as the characters' fears, fragility and flaws are exposed: everyone is a suspect; everyone has a motive.
As the play twists and turns, the town’s ‘dirty laundry’ is exposed. The play explores issues such as isolation, cultural identity, gambling, pride, loyalty and above all the importance and strength of community. Our play highlights the complexity of ‘small town’ culture and while it is heightened and absurd, it is easily relatable, undeniably Australian, laugh out loud funny and heartbreakingly human.
We are a fresh new Sydney-based collaborating team of actor-writers: Andy Leonard, Sarah Hodgetts and Victoria Greiner. We share a wicked sense of humour, a genuine love of storytelling and a vision for theatre. Ultimately, this is not a one-off project but the seed to a much larger, sustained collaboration. We are excited about our work. Throughout our journey thus far we have thrived on the unique chemistry and complimentary skill sets we each bring to the room.
