"Without music, life would be a mistake." - Friedrich Nietzsche
The Quayle Project began last year while in the midst of accomplishing my Bachelor of Music Degree at NMIT. The other fabulous musicians in TQP that you have been introduced to are also BA graduates of the degree, so as you might imagine, this has been a very fortuitous thing to have happened in many ways.
I initially went back to study after 15 years of constant involvement in the session musician scene, for the simple reason that I wanted to learn how to write my own material. Up until that point I had a fairly good understanding of classical theory but none of jazz and world music, and not a clue as to how to go about writing my musical ideas down on manuscript. I had a deep desire to need to know how to do this.
At NMIT I was musically exposed to so many different genres and cultures which was a wonderfully eye opening experience and one that helped to give me the tools necessary to begin to carve out and compose the musical ideas that were floating around in my head. This opened the flood gates to musical freedom for me!
Nurturing and developing these skills now allows for so many possibilities and ideas such as The Quayle Project to take flight. While TQP has started it's first breath of life by recording some wonderfully emotive instrumental music, the real journey is just beginning. The greater purpose for this ongoing project is to harness the collective talents of these musicians and merge them with other forms of artistic expression so that the collective are creating a work that is much larger and much more significant than the sum of it's parts.
So, with this in mind, The Single launch (taking place in December at the melbourne multi media performance space Loop) marks TQP's first collaboration experience with visual artist Jenna Fahey-White and movement artist Emily Altis. At this event the audience can expect a multi sensory experience, where the art of combining sound, movement and visuals together is the very notion of why this project has come into existence.

The main risk we face is not reaching our desired target in time. Fingers crossed that won't happen!
However, when you are thrown a curve ball, one must have a Plan B!
Leading your own project means taking on all the financial responsibilities for delivering on all fronts. While The Quayle Project will still release their debut Single on 15th December, a much smaller number of copies will be available for purchase for the time being until further funds are available.
