CitiOpera’s La Cenerentola is a modern take on the classic Cinderella. In just a short time CitiOpera has cemented its role in Victorian operatic life as a vibrant young company that presents opera in its original language, yet with a modern twist.

Director Theresa Borg cleverly links the theme of transformation and renewal to a contemporary commentary on recycling. Designer, Marc McIntyre echoes this in his wondrous sets and costumes assembled from reconditioned materials. The story of the young, deserving woman whose fortunes are improved by a royal suitor is, nonetheless, instantly recognisable.

Musical director extraordinaire, Trevor Jones, leads a cast of accomplished singers and musicians who perform Rossini’s dazzling arias and ensembles. Sunday’s matinee will be a special performance where grandparents and parents are encouraged to introduce their younger family members to the magical world of opera.

Due to the need for orchestra and reasonably large casts, Opera is an expensive business. We are a not for profit organisation and many of our artists and workers donate their contribution.
