Piccolo Cor is a collaboration between dance and devised theatre. It began as an exploration of happiness and self-fulfillment back in the 2012 Dunedin Fringe Festival. It drew strongly from Brene Brown’s TED talks which discuss the power of vulnerability in relation to a personal sense of worth and also from the philosophies of Jean Vanier on belonging. We embarked on a journey to discover, appreciate and ultimately celebrate people’s journey to finding identity and a sense of belonging in the world they live in.
Towards the end of 2012, we (Anna and Miri Noonan) were approached by Alex Wilson and Hadley Taylor of Counterpoint Productions about further developing Piccolo Cor. So we assembled a team of both new and old Piccolo Cor performers and have enthusiastically embarked on the journey once more.
Anna has a background in ballet and contemporary dance She completed her Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne in 2010 and has since been dividing her time between the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Miriam has a background in drama and speech. She completed her BA Hons in Theatre Studies at Otago University in 2012 and that same year received the Otago University Award for Contribution to the Arts .
In our team we are fortunate to have a bunch of trans-Tasman talent - half the cast hailing from Dunedin and the other half of the cast cruising on in from Melbourne. No small commitment from the Melbournites who have given up their respective 'money jobs' for the next few months and flown over 'the ditch' to Dunedin especially for Piccolo Cor.
Having the support of Counterpoint Productions to continue with Piccolo Cor in 2013 has given us the inspiration and motivation to see where we can take our work. As our Dad always says "Aim high, achieve high!"
Our dream is to take Piccolo Cor on tour.
Our hopes for this Pozible campaign are to:
1. To help out our Australian cast members with a financial contribution towards their flights.
2. To begin a pot of funds for future performances, helping us to get around New Zealand and the
world!
3.To ensure we have a quality recording of Piccolo Cor to help us share our work and support future funding
applications.
Any support, regardless of size is very much appreciated (and definitely won't go unnoticed!) We are also willing to negotiate rewards if they do not suit. :)
