THE VAULT CABARET WILL BE IMMORTALISED IN A BEAUTIFUL BOOK!

Anne-Louise Rentell, the founder of The Vault Cabaret, and Nina Kourea, one of the key photographers of the event, are putting together a book of memories from the past 13 years of The Vault Cabaret.

Since its debut on February 14, 2004, The Vault Cabaret has forged its place in the heart of the cultural landscape by both providing local artists a place to perform and developing a supportive and committed audience for their work.  Local, interstate and international artists with acts as diverse as sideshow, stand-up, circus, dance, theatre and live music have all performed at the unique Vault venue in the heart of industrial Port Kembla over the past decade. The night has never been short of acts and invariably sells out. It has been an excellent and inspiring example of the arts working within the community and for the community.

The Vault Cabaret book aims to ease the pain of the end of this hugely popular cult event and to celebrate the contribution it has made to the cultural life of Wollongong, by chronicling the acts and audiences as captured by photographers, painters, and poster designers over the last 13 years.

We are seeking funds to pay the creators of the book and for the book’s first print run.

GOAL: $6,000

$4500 – Creative fees x 3 @ $1500 each (curator %20 designer x 2)

$1500 – Printing of first run of books

The book will be made through the “Blurb” self-publishing website.  Nina used this website to create her previous book, The Port Kembla Mermaids, a celebration of the women’s swimming group which meets every week at Port Kembla pool. The book will be designed and created over the next couple of months. 

Merrigong Theatre Company has come on board to support the use of creative materials (photos and poster designs), to assist with promotion and provide rewards for the crowdfunding campaign but the cost of creating the book itself is unfunded.  

While it will be a lot fun reliving the memories as we undertake the process of selecting photos and poster designs from the past 13 years, and designing the book itself, it will also take a lot of time and hard work.

Without Pozible funding, the cost of the book will be greater as it will need to cover the costs of the collation of materials and design. A successful Pozible campaign, will enable these costs to be covered.
