About the Project

The Poetry in Film Festival (PIFF) is the initiative that aims to bring the Australian arts community together with a festival combining film and poetry.

PIFF 2012 in its third year, is an exciting and innovative short film festival based in Melbourne, Australia. Although its home is Melbourne, the festival will tour around the country where the top films will be screened at Palace Cinema locations in Sydney and Brisbane.

PIFF is looking for $2,000 funding as prize money for the filmmakers which they will receive along with in kind prizes that can help them along in their career.

Entrants in the festival are given a piece of modern poetry. From there they are free to interpret the poem in the form of a 4-7 min short film however they see fit.

The films will be judged by a team of industry professionals and awards will be given for the following criteria:
  • Best Direction

  • Best Cinematography

  • Best Film (Best interpretation of the poem)

  • Audience Choice (judged on the PIFF Showcase and Awards Night)

  • Best Performance

2012 Poem

We have recently confirmed this years poem which will inspire film makers:

By Kevin Gillam

it’s the jaundiced streetlight. it’s the black-lined lung of harbor. it’s
the hum of unthinking. it’s the bill- boards screaming. it’s Friday bleeding. it’s the unsilence. it’s a fresh tongue of tar. it’s the whiff of poss- ibility. it’s tail lights in
soft focus. it’s a bottle-top
sky. it’s the unsilence. it’s un- seens and schemings. it’s the strip and neon hit. it’s the smeared mirror’s lie. it’s the unsilence. it’s the
lips of driveway. it’s the first
sip of stopping. it’s the silence

Our Goal

The $2,000 funding we are looking for is for the filmmakers. We are hoping to encourage filmmakers to enter the festival by offering cash prizes to the winners of the various categories on offer.

PIFF is hoping to become an integral part of the annual cultural agenda and it ‘s with the support of people like you that will help to ensure this happens.
