juilliardjourney
The Pozible campaign has ended, but
the juilliardjourney has only just begun...

I can still hardly believe that I now live in New York, that I have a security swipe card for The Juilliard School, let alone the fact that you, my dear supporters, have raised an almighty sum of $15000 to help me survive in this most epic of urban jungles...
It will take me some time to come to terms with all of this, but in the mean time, I must finish my Geography Honours thesis and stay on top of my homework at school!
Friends, family, strangers who will never again be strangers, I thank you all with all my heart.
Anthony

You can still contribute to juilliardjourney!
Funds raised through Pozible will go a long way in helping me survive in the big smoke, but over the next two years my expenses will be roughly double this amount!
Tax deductible donations are pozible via:

UPDATE: WOW...
I am still completely amazed by the generosity of so many dear friends and complete strangers who have all contributed to the stunning success of this campaign!
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
The campaign still has well over 2 weeks remaining, and I would love to keep rewarding any prospective sponsors with high fives, Bach Suites, postcards, private recitals, tours of Juilliard and just plenty of pure love.
While already very ambitious, $10000 was the minimum I had hoped to raise in order to offset estimated living/study costs of $20000 per year in New York!
I'll be creating some new and exciting rewards along the way, but for now I've got my head down writing my Geography thesis.
The countdown to juilliardjourney is nearly over... I'm leaving this beautiful country on Friday, and will have breakfast in America on Saturday! Can't wait for a bit of...

juilliardjourney is the manifestation of my wildest cello dreams.
In September 2012 I am lucky enough to be commencing a Master of Music in Historical Performance on Baroque Cello at The Juilliard School in New York City. I am the first Australian to ever be admitted into this particular program. It's a two year intensive course; the opportunity of a lifetime!

What does this campaign aim to fund?
My tuition fees, valued at over $70000, are covered by a full scholarship. However, additional expenses such as flights, visa fees, insurance, a living allowance, instrument maintenance costs and learning materials are estimated by Juilliard to be approximately US$20000 per year.
I am seeking a minimum of $10000 through my Pozible campaign, but hope to raise as much as possible in order to finance more of my degree.
Why support me?
My Pozible campaign gives sponsors the chance to support the first Australian to study Early Music at the Juilliard School. It represents a rapid expansion and evolution in Early Music Education in Australia, a testament to the extraordinary talents and generosity of our own professional early music practitioners and teachers (also here and here). I have an unprecedented opportunity to learn, perform and collaborate with emerging and established artists from all over the world at Juilliard. I also plan to make the most of the cultural melting pot that is New York City, soaking up as much of it as I can and pursuing my interests in many other forms of music.
On my return to Australia I will bring back a set of technical skills, cultural exposure and musical passion fostered at one of the world’s greatest arts institutions. I hope to inspire many others to follow this path (some other young Australian students have already decided to audition for next year!) and make my own contribution to professional music making in my home country. Juilliard will open doors to me, and I hope to use the opportunity to open doors for others as well by forging international relationships and collaborations.
I have aspirations to innovate and inspire in musical performance and research, bringing new relevance and resonance in classical music to 21st century audiences. I'm passionate about music not just for its potential to move and entertain, but also for its potential to create spaces in which people can engage at an emotional level with the complex issues of our time. I believe artists, scientists, philosophers and policy makers must collaborate in their work and their communication with the public if consensus in hearts and minds is to be achieved in moving towards a more sustainable future for ourselves and our planet.
With my Honours degree in Geography from Sydney University and my musical education at Juilliard, I hope to develop the technical skills, the artistic integrity, the depth of knowledge and the strength of will to make a difference in this world.
What is Juilliard?
Just the very name of this historic school has an aura or mystique about it. Over the years I thought of Juilliard as some sort of artistic kingdom in the sky, where only the finest and most attractive musicians, dancers and actors would go to hone their skills and bask in the glory of their art. A place of dreams and lofty aspirations of careers blessed with the golden touch of a name that opens all doors to its Alumni.
Such is the awe and respect with which countless artists, young and old, amateur and professional, speak of this great school in New York City. I personally knew no one who had studied there, and occasionally doubted whether real people ever managed gain entry into its hallowed halls. However, through fortuitous meetings, international musical endeavour and lasting friendship, I came to know real people who successfully auditioned at Juilliard. Some of these are ‘Early Musicians’, HIPsters (Historically Informed Performance) like me. I was inspired, and decided to audition myself! After playing the best audition of my life, live before a panel of 12 in New York City in early March, 2012, I am now one of those real people. I am extremely fortunate, and I plan to make the most of every moment I have at the school.
The Historical Performance Graduate Program at Juilliard is relatively new, having only been established in 2009. My teacher is Phoebe Carrai, cellist of Musica Antigua Köln. The program for 2012-2013 includes performances with such luminaries as William Christie, Richard Egarr, Masaaki Suzuki, Jordi Savall and Kristian Bezuidenhout.
Alumni of Juilliard include Yo-Yo Ma, Philip Glass, Nina Simone, Miles Davis and Australia's own Dene Olding (SSO) and Kathyrn Selby.
What would a successful campaign mean to me?
A successful Pozible campaign would allow me to realise my dreams in New York – to learn, create, collaborate and perform to my greatest potential - without financial burden. I am grateful for the life I lead, and in seeking help to finance it I am hoping also to be able to share my successes with a much wider community of art lovers than just my own colleagues, friends and family. And I don’t just want your money...
I want your ideas, your advice, your contacts, your favourite bagel ingredients. I want to know what you want from classical music in the 21st century. I want to know who I should play with, what I should play, and where. You can direct my creative energies to places that I may never have imagined. I need your financial support. I want your passion for art and your friendship. Bravo!
