Relationships and distance… Need we say more?
FAR FLUNG is a new contemporary dance work currently under development for presentation at the 2014 Crack Theatre Festival in Newcastle (Oct 2-5) as part of This is Not Art (TiNA).
There are over 1600kms separating our group of five collaborators from each other, and so we are tackling the concept of long-distance interaction both in rehearsal and performance, but we need your help to make it possible!

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia, every dollar you give will be matched up to $2000 through their Match: Crowdfunding for the Independent Arts Sector initiative. That means for every $1 you pledge, we receive $2 towards our project and your donation stretches twice as far! As this is an all-or-nothing campaign however, we need to reach our target of $2000 to receive any funds at all, so if you like the sound of our project we would be eternally grateful for your support!

FAR FLUNG is an interactive dance work devised by emerging artists collaborating across regional and metropolitan Victoria and Queensland, premiering in New South Wales. An exercise in physicalizing the experience of non-physical interaction, FAR FLUNG is created via correspondence: Skype conferencing, social media, recorded video and the written word are fundamental to the development process and group rehearsals are rare.
The performance is an extension of the process: occurring simultaneously in multiple spaces throughout Newcastle, the dancers perform the work to separate audiences, interacting with each other through a network of live video projections. The audience is invited to choose the venue from which they witness the long distance dance as it unfolds, and to influence the performance by sharing their own experiences of “going the distance” via live feeds of social media. Stay alert – the locations and number of performance sites may shift from one performance to the next.
FAR FLUNG combines elements of site specific, durational, interactive and multimedia work with improvisation and risk, instilling personal narratives at the heart of the work with each performance growing out of the previous one.

The Challenges
Of course the other big challenge is getting us all over to Newcastle for the festival and installing ourselves in various nooks and crannies (hopefully WiFi equipped!) around town. We are a group of very enthusiastic artists who will make all this happen with tin cans and string if need be, but with your help we will be able to rise to these challenges we have set ourselves and produce some really good quality, highly relatable work. Thanks for your support - we'll keep you posted!
