Nihao Pingyao
As we&%2339;ve reached our goal so quickly we have set a New Goal. Reaching for the stars! We can do it!
This amount will completely cover our airfares - which means we will all get to go! That will be a relief, as we can&%2339;t bring ourselves to pick who gets to go, and who stays home >_<
Be our friend! -----> https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nihao-Pingyao-Send-us-to-China/196305600426582
As photographers, we are more comfortable telling our stories with pictures.
Sometimes a little more information is necessary…
Hello there!
Our names are Alice, Sundari, Courtney and Aurelia. Pleased to meet you!
We are (graduating) photography students at the South Australian School of Art. This year each of us have had our photographs selected to be in the BIGGEST INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EVENT OF THE YEAR.
We are DETERMINED to get there.
Where is “there”? There is China. Pingyao, China!!
Representatives from every major photography foundation, gallery, collector, magazine and an army of academics from schools all over the world will be at this event.
We want to meet them. We want to give a big ol' Nihao! to all the movers and shakers congregated in the ancient walled city of Pingyao in September of this year.
We are asking you to help us fly.
Each of us will need to raise over $1000 for our airfares alone. We have organised a range of fundraising events from cake stalls on campus to a movie night. We have high hopes for our Pozible campaign & we hope to tempt you with some super incentives to support our project.
INCENTIVES
Pledge $5+ and you will receive a big thank you from us (and a link to your website) on our Pozible wall, and also on our project website www.nihaopingyao.com.au
Pledge $20 and you will receive an oversized wooden brooch featuring one of our favourite cameras. Those of you who have seen these already know how covet-able they are. They are made with love and a lot of help from our dear friend and supporter Steve Wilson.
Pledge $35 or more and we will send you a set of postcard sized prints. Each of the four of us have chosen an image that can only be purchased through our fundraising campaign. The edition size will be determined by how many pledges are made. We think you'll really like:
Alice Blanch is offering a rare colour box brownie panorama. Alice uses an old box brownie camera and film to make haunting landscapes. Check out her website.
Sundari Carmody is a polaroid afficionado. Sundari is soon to have an exhibition with The Impossible Project in Hong Kong.
Courtney Bignell uses her beloved Yashica twin lens camera to capture nudes hidden in Australian landscapes. Courtney has produced a beautiful series of prints using the labour intensive three colour gum bichromate. View more of her work online here.
Aurelia Carbone constructs little worlds out of ordinary things, then uses a big old camera (with a cape!) and a piece of film as big as a postcard to take it's picture. She has a website, too.
Pledge $50 or more and we will send you one 8x10 limited edition, signed and numbered giclee print of your choice from the photographs above.
Pledge $100 and we will joyfully and with utmost care and attention send to you a set of four 8 x 10 limited edition, signed and numbered giclee prints.
Pledge $200 One 'full size' limited edition print of your choice from the photographs above. This is just like buying one of our exhibition pieces, only with a teeny weeny price tag.
Pledge $600 If you are even considering this we think you must be absolutely one of the biggest patrons of emerging artists ever! A Patron of Renaissance calibre! For your generosity we will send all four of our photographs printed at 'full size' - just like at one of our exhibitions. For each of this size is a bit different, but for example Courtney's print is 75 x 75 cm. These are limited edition prints, signed and numbered. An amazing way to boost your collection of contemporary Australian photography for a fraction of gallery prices & the bonus of lots of warm fuzzy feelings and eternal adoration from four emerging artists.
The Photography Department at UniSA has generously offered to support our project by covering our printing costs - this means that everything you pledge contributes to us achieving our goal. Nihao Pingyao!
UPDATE! ASTONISHING GENEROSITY TO SUPPORT OUR PROJECT!
In just 6 days we are already almost half way to reaching our target of $2000! That's pretty awesome. If you are one of the people already supporting us we send you BIG ♥
Truth be told, all up we need to find $10 000 to get all four of us to Pingyao in September - and even at that price we will be staying in hostels! Holy smokes!
Lucky for us we have some amazing support from three Contemporary Australian Photographers who recognise what this opportunity could mean to our careers as emerging artists, and want to help us reach that goal.
Deborah Paauwe, Bronek Kozka and Mark Kimber have each given us one of their photographs to offer as "rewards" for a pledge of $1000. Yep, $1000 each. INSANE BARGAIN! I know, right?! Click on the UPDATES button above to see the incredible work these generous artists have given to us in support of our project
First one to pledge $1000 gets first pick!*(and so on)
*Please note that art courier fees are the responsibility of the purchaser.
UPDATE! - 3/8/11 - WE'VE REACHED OUR FIRST GOAL. I have a high 5 with your name on it!
Thank you so much everyone for being so supportive ♥ We are on a bit of a happy cloud at the minute. We are going to CHINA!! Nihao!!! We are going on a little cloud made by everyone who has made this possible. It's a beautiful little cloud and we love it because YOU made it. Thank you so much!
With 10 more days to go we are going to try even harder to raise enough to cover our airfare and visas - a total of $4800. We can do it!
The BAKE SALE today was a raging success - we made over $500 - incredible! That will take care of the visas, which means we need to raise $1500 more to have all four of our bums on seats in airplanes (or little clouds) to CHINA.
In other exciting news - you might also be interested to know that Alice's work is part of an outstanding exhibition ORIGINATE at Fringe Benefits gallery, on throughout the SALA Festival. Way to go Alice! Aurelia also has work in a SALA show - as part of WishList - craftsouth's members exhibition. Courtney spoke about the Nihao Pingyao project on local TV in Mt Gambier! Mt Gambier represent!
