Help the Young Wägilak Group get to Europe
FINAL HOURS!
Our crowd funding campaign is in its final hours. Pledges from as little as $1 are welcomed and rewards for your pledge include unique souvenirs from the tour; you could even win Paul Grabowsky himself! Read on for more details.
“I have followed my grandpa and I want to be like him. And I did it. I did. I’m standing here and talking for country and I’m walking with spirit, with Wild Blackfella called Djuwalparra”. Benjamin Wilfred, leader of the YWG.
This will be the first time the Young Wägilak Group have travelled outside Australia! And this tour represents an opportunity to showcase one of the oldest continuously practiced musical cultures in the world in combination with the vast improvising talents of the AAO.
The Crossing Roper Bar project started in 2004 as a conversation in remote SE Arnhem Land between custodians of traditional knowledge and AAO musicians. It is a celebration of the country and its people and links cultures across time and space through music.
We invite you to be a part of this project, and give the AAO and the YWG the chance to present a rare and transcendental performance to international audiences.
“This is music that sounds … as if it’s growing and evolving out of the earth. Though much of this music is arranged - both orchestrally and in the vocals - it sounds truly spontaneous, free and improvised. From the outset we’re in what feels like an unexplored area.” Donald Elfman, NYC Jazz Record
The Australia Council, Arts Victoria, Portland House Foundation and generous individuals have funded us up to 92% but this Pozible campaign is needed to raise the LAST 8% to get there. Help us meet our $8,000 target and continue this truly Australian project by clicking the 'Support Project' button now.
Listed in the right-hand column are the rewards on offer according to how much you pledge. Remember you can always make a donation above the amount of the pledge reward. As a special reward, the person who donates the biggest amount of money in this campaign will win the opportunity to have Paul Grabowsky play your piano in your home for up to an hour (Melbourne vicinity only).
Please also note that rewards are listed in Australian $. Here's a simple approximate conversion guide if you are giving from Europe: $140 = €121 = £95
