Who am I?

I'm an independent singer songwriter from Melbourne, Australia.  Mum says I've been singing since I could walk.

Now I'm doing something I've never done before - I'm asking for help to fund the recording of my new EP. Cosmic Dust is my second EP with ARIA award winning producer Will Larsen and it will be released in May 2017.  It is made up of six songs we wrote together - Will wrote the music and I wrote the lyrics.

Background on the EP

Will and I began working on Cosmic Dust back in...    well...      let's just say it's been a while!! 😬😉 Recording is an expensive process and these things do take time.

We've written 10 songs since then and we've chosen 6 that we think work well together. They're a mix of Burt Bacharach, David Bowie, Carol King and Nina Simone but with a modern twist.  

People who have been involved on the journey:

As with every release there are people who help make the dream a reality. In the case of Cosmic Dust, there have been many special people:

• Gary Lux - is a prominent Los Angeles sound engineer who has already mixed one of our tracks for the EP which we self funded. We were so impressed. Thanks Gary!
• Sylphing - an artist who embraces rough paper, smudges and scratchy drawings of memories will be designing the EP artwork. Thanks Sylphing!
• Melike Ozcagli - my best friend (and another artist) has been kind enough to dedicate her time and effort to this project by designing some of my lyrics onto t-shirts and tote bags. Thanks Mel!
• Mark Sbarrato - a filmmaker and cinematographer has made the first video for the EP which we self funded. Thanks Mark!
• My Mum - she’s a gem and provided lots of yummy catering while Will and I worked on the EP. Thanks Mum!

In order to get this EP out into the world and get some real momentum behind it, is going to cost me around $12,000. This includes production costs, videos as well as professional marketing and promotions. So far all of our work has been self-funded by me and Will.  

The following still needs to be done:

• Mixing of all the songs by Gary Lux (Aretha Franklin, Sting, Frank Sinatra) in Los Angeles
• Mastering of all the songs at Studio 301 (Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John) in Sydney, Australia
• Manufacturing of the CD’s
• Marketing and promotions for EP
• Music video
• Artwork for the CD cover by Sylphing

MIXING & MASTERING

There's more to making an album or an EP than just the recording process.  We've already recorded all the vocals and all the instruments at our own expense.  Now it's time to send it to be mixed.

Mixing is where everything is balanced, sweetened and polished.  I want to send Cosmic Dust to Los Angeles where Gary Lux, one of Hollywood’s premier sound engineers, will be mixing the songs.  Gary has been very encouraging and enthusiatic about my music for a number of years and now I finally have an opportunity to work with him.  Gary has been the guy in charge of the music at The Golden Globes for the last 24 years.  I find it amazing and quite surreal that someone who has mixed Frank Sinatra, Sting, Janet Jackson and Aretha Franklin will now be mixing songs I wrote on the couch in my lounge room.

Mastering is a completely separate process, used to prepare songs for CDs and radio.  Once Gary has finished with the mixes in LA, I will send the songs to Australia's foremost studios, Studio 301 in Sydney for this.  They have worked with Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Elton John.

MARKETING & PROMOTIONS

Once we have the songs sounding amazing, we still need to include marketing and advertising so people hear them. This includes having people present the songs to radio stations on our behalf.  The more we advertise, the more people will hear the tracks!

THE ARTWORK

I’m asking the artist Sylphing to do the artwork for the EP cover. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for my EP.

T-SHIRTS AND TOTE BAGS

The t-shirts and totebags have been designed by my best friend Mel who also happens to be a very talented artist. She has copied some of my lyrics on the t-shirts and tote bags in her gorgeous and unique style.  All of the t-shirts and tote bags come in your choice of five colours.

Giving Back

Many of the rewards available also include a donation to Care Australia, as it's always been important to me to give to those in need.

Sometimes it's not enough to have written some catchy songs.  In fact, it's never enough.  In order for me to be heard by as wide an audience as possible, the songs must sound as polished and professional as they can be. That's why I am sending them to LA. That's why I'm sending them to the best in the business. The best in the business will make these songs sound as good as they possibly can. 

The biggest challenge beyond this point is to have an audience hear the songs. Social media has really helped artists share their music with listeners but due to the thousands of musicians all trying to do the same thing it can be really difficult to stand out from the crowd and be heard. This is where I need the help of professional marketing and promotions staff.  This EP needs to be put in the hands of the right people and this can only be done with the right help.
