Heart Cards have been developed as a project for the final assessment of my Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy. My passion as a psychotherapist is supporting clients to manage eating disorders and more importantly to contribute to the prevention of eating disorders. Support this campaign to bring Heart Cards to life - a tool to be used to build positive body image and self esteem.

Mission

My mission is to bring Heart Cards to life and share them as a tool to make a positive difference to people's body image and self-esteem.

Purpose

The purpose of this Pozible Project is to fund the printing and production of a series of 28 Heart Cards. The cards focus on developing positive body image and building healthy self esteem. Having personally produced 28 artworks that will be showcased on the cards, the bulk of the work is done! We do however need your help to bring Heart Cards to physical life and into the hands of those that need them most.

Along with the individual artwork on each card that represents a particular inner strength, a reflection or 'action' step is also included. This empowers the reader to implement an action straight away. Often with inspiration cards that is simply all they are – a source of inspiration. However, in my work as a therapist, I feel it is also important to combine a practical suggestion to bring that inspiration to life in a personal and meaningful way.

I often use empowering cards with clients as I believe they can be a useful tool, however I have not found cards that specifically combat negative self-image and self doubt. Heart Cards are designed to balance out the intensity of current media messages that promote a very limited and often damaging/unrealistic body image and instead, offer some thoughtful suggestions of a way forward. 

Implementation

There are many health, social services, and counselling organisations that will be invited to use Heart Cards in their work with clients as a tool in treatment and therapy for eating disorders. Heart Cards can be used as one-on-one conversation triggers, independently or in group therapy. Heart Cards provide clients with walk-away tangible actions to focus on.

Heart Cards are also a beautiful gift for young people, adolescents, and men and women in general who are managing their emotions around body image amidst a minefield of distressing media and advertising pressures. 

My greatest hope

It is my greatest hope that Heart Cards will be used as powerful tools to teach younger and older people to love their bodies, to honour their gifts and to love and nourish both their inner and outer selves.

Pozible Funding will be used for the graphic design, printing and production costs of the first series cards. 

In many cases this initial print run is the most challenging, however with lots of positive interest from services and individuals following the production of the initial set of 500 Heart Cards further funding will be sourced through the sale of the cards.

A breakdown of project costs follows...

The challenge faced is raising enough funds to have Heart Cards printed and packaged as a product. Other than that I don't foresee any other challenges. The art work has all been completed, the written material has all been done – it now boils down to raising the funds to get these cards out into the big wide world.

That's where you come in! 

The other challenge is to sit back and not do anything at all about the issue of body image and self esteem. Eating disorders and damaging psychology around body image is a growing epidemic in our culture and indeed around the world. By funding Heart Cards you are contributing to a practical tool that will help build awareness around positive body image and combat the current pressure stemming from social media, advertising and the media in general.
