'Graphic Novels! Melbourne!' is a feature documentary about comics culture in Melbourne by Daniel Hayward and Bernard Caleo. Its Australian premiere is on 22 November 2012 at Readings bookshop in Carlton, Melbourne at 8.30pm. Come along!
Budget-wise, the film has been funded so far by a 'production' grant the City of Melbourne Arts Grants program, a fundraising night that we held in
June, and some donations from a few kind folks. Readings is also an in-kind supporter of the film. We're very grateful, and we're going to just about make it, money-wise, to the premiere.
But! STOP PRESS! We have just received some fantastic news - 'Graphic Novels! Melbourne!' has been accepted to screen as part of the 40th Angouleme Comics Festival in France in February 2013 - Angouleme is the biggest comics festival in Europe, so it's really brilliant to be able to show our film there, and spread the word about what's happening with comics and graphic novels in Australia.
In order to take the film to Angouleme, Bernard and Daniel need your help. And cartoonist Pat Grant, featured in the film, has not only generously produced the poster artwork but has also printed, signed and numbered 86 x A3 size prints of it on the
Rizzeria Collective's Risograph duplicator in Sydney. So buy a poster and you 1) get a beautiful Pat Grant print for your wall, and 2) help us take 'Graphic Novels! Melbourne!' to Angouleme in 2013!
Thank you,
Bernard and Daniel

Pat, Bernard and Daniel stare out over the rooftops of Brunswick. Into the future.
