TALENTED

Successful on 24th Nov 2013 at 12:00AM.
"Talented" is Jemma Cotter's graduate year short. Shot on the ARRI ALEXA, we have successfully completed principle photography and are in the early stages of post-production. Upon completion in February 2014, we aim to send it to local, national and international film festivals.

Jasper is an incredibly lonely middle-aged man, and wonderfully talented voice artist who works for a children's TV show. One day at work he meets Ebony, a vivacious but socially awkward co-worker, and what starts out as sharing a few drinks together quickly turns into something more. Complications arise for Jasper when he tries to hide his developing feelings for Ebony from his wife Liz, and his deep feelings of guilt slowly culminate into Talented's stunning conclusion.

Films are expensive to make, but with the loving support and constant enthusiasm it is receiving from the Talented crew, we are able to do so on quite a tight budget.

We hire locations, give our art department some money to make the sets look authentic, feed people on set, pay for nice lenses, pay even more for someone to make our pictures look pretty and uniform in a colour grade, burn some DVDs to give to everyone who has supported us along the way, hold a private cast and crew screening, then hopefully pay postage to send it off into the big wide world of film festivals.

Every dollar donated (quite literally, every $1) will be used to help us make "Talented" a roaring success.

JEMMA COTTER – WRITER/DIRECTOR/SOUND DESIGNER

Jemma is an up and coming filmmaker, who has been interested in telling stories ever since she wrote her first one titled ‘When I Went Swimm with Seahorses” in first grade. She later learnt a great deal more about grammar and spelling, and wound up studying for a Bachelor of Film and Television at Swinburne University in Melbourne.

Jemma has directed five projects since beginning university, most notably on music video “Please Don’t Go” by alt-rock band RIBS and a fantasy-comedy short film entitled “The Shepherds’ Ferryman.” She has also gained experience working as a cinematographer and editor on music videos, interviews and corporate videos outside of university, but continually returns to the roles of writing and directing when she can. “Talented” is her latest project and one she is passionate about not only for its uniqueness, but because of the peculiar way it tackles the theme of loneliness, which she believes will truly resonate with an audience.

BONNIE MARNOCK – PRODUCER

Bonnie has always been interested in what a producer is and does for a film. Previous to Talented, Bonnie has produced various short films, music videos and a commercial short. With experience also in Production Design, Craft Services, Directing/Assistant Directing and Sound Design/Recording, Bonnie enjoys all elements of creating cinematic projects. Drawn to the production because of its strong characterisation and an existing interest in voice artists, Talented will be Bonnie’s second collaboration with Writer Director Jemma Cotter and Cinematographer David Williams (having previously worked together on Please Don’t Go, a music video for Boston based band RIBS in 2012).

DAVID WILLIAMS – CINEMATOGRAPHER

David Williams has been working as a cameraman since he was 15 and his passion for cinematography has continued to grow over the past 6 years. Having worked on everything from dance competitions and sporting events to music videos and short films David has discovered and developed his talent for visual storytelling. David was drawn to "Talented" because of it's unconventional story and the need for creative cinematography to capture the intricate characters.

ELLIE RAVA – PRODUCTION DESIGNER

Ellie has always been interested in Production Design since early high school participating in the design and construction of school productions, musicals and art shows. It wasn’t until she worked with the students from TISCH New York University on several of their productions inspired her to study Film and Television. Ellie is passionate about Production Design and enjoys drawing the audience into the atmosphere of the story through artistic mediums. Ellie is excited to be working on several films in her third and final year and a Production Designer.

CAMILLE LOPEZ – EDITOR

Cam has been formerly recognized as specializing in production design and is responsible for the complete looks of such short films as Best Boy (2012), WOMB (2012), Draw (2012) and Speleology (2012). This, however, has not removed from her dedication to the craft of film editing as an integral form of storytelling. She has previously cut the short film, Dormant (2011) and the more recent music-focused documentary, Facing the Music (2012) directed by Robert Smith. Cam is currently signed on to cut Talented, with intentions of cutting a highly naturalistic take on the loneliness and delusion one man can experience despite possessing immense talent.

The Challenges
